  • We Rank The WORST Decks in Legacy History | EP.189
Legacy has been around for over 20 years now - time for the boys to review the worst of the worst, the absolute bottom of the barrel of decks the community ever tricked itself into accepting into the format. Callum, Kai, and Julian each introduce three decks from wildly different eras of the format to...properly analyze and never make fun of. Also, Kai has some great tips for you, should you ever find yourself in what he calls the Greater Luxembourg Area. We know this is what gets you out of bed every morning. 00:00:00 THE GOLDEN TICKET TOURNAMENT 00:13:30 The Worst Decks EVER YO 00:19:30 First  00:35:30 Second 00:42:30 Third 00:48:30 Fourth 01:02:00 Fifth 01:14:30 Sixth 01:24:30 Seventh 01:34:30 OF COURSE YOU NAMED THIS 01:46:30 Ninth https://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?3816-Deck-The-Truffle-Shuffle/page2 https://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?2600-Deck-Rabid-Wombat-Mono-White-Control https://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?21544-Deck-Manaless-Ichorid https://www.hipstersofthecoast.com/2017/09/popeye-stompy-pirates-legacy-mtg/ https://old.starcitygames.com/decks/44895 https://web.archive.org/web/20180407163316/https://www.channelfireball.com/articles/popeye-stompy/ Thank you for tuning in, Until next time! • No Callum, it’s NOT Black Lotus | EP.188
Callum rejoins the crew and is immediately wrong - about Black Lotus, of all the cards. Something he turns out to actually have been right about is the return of everyone's favourite, most difficult-to-pilot archetype: 17-colour Midrange Pile. Turns out Rakshasa's Bargain is a real and showing up in playsets across Legacy now. Also, get your bodies ready for the GOLDEN TICKET for the next Impact Returns in Spain in July! Everyday Eternal has picked up one of those and we'll be giving it away to one of you soon! What it do? FREE ACCESS TO ALL EVENTS at Impact Returns throughout the weekend. The more you suck, the higher the value of the ticket, so maybe we should give it away to the worst player we can find; but, as it turns out hosts aren't eligible for it ¯_(ツ)_/¯Seriously though, Impact Returns is one of the coolest, smoothest and beloved Legacy events of the year, and makes for the perfect start to a vacation in Spain/Portugal. Hit is up for ANY information you might need - it's worth it! :-)00:00:00 British Linguistic Depravity00:11:00 Callum's Late Takes On The Bans00:33:30 These Are Your New Toys!01:04:30 IMPACT Returns, returns!01:21:30 THE GOLDEN TICKET GIVEAWAY https://impactreturns.com/https://unityleague.gg/Thank you for tuning in,Until next time!Julian

  • THEY BANNED IT! – Reactions With Bob Huang | EP.187
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEAmnesty International Stands Firm in Support of Legacy Format Bans: A Call for Justice Against Mycospawn and Troll of Khazad-dûmMarch 31, 2025 – London, UK – In a bold and unprecedented move, Amnesty International has thrown its full support behind the recent ban of Sowing Mycospawn and Troll of Khazad-dûm from the Legacy format of Magic: The Gathering. While the organization has long championed the rights of prisoners and the abolition of unjust detention, today, Amnesty makes an exception: we stand united in the belief that these two cards deserve to be locked away in the deepest dungeons of the Magic multiverse, never to see the light of competitive play again. The decision to ban Sowing Mycospawn and Troll of Khazad-dûm was not made lightly, but with a sense of justice that resonates deeply with our core values. These cards, once staples of dominance in the Legacy format, have perpetuated toxic gameplay that undermines the integrity of the game. The endless cycles of resource recursion, unfair board states, and the total disregard for strategic diversity have only served to imprison players in a cycle of frustration. For far too long, these cards have silenced the voice of fair play and decency in Magic: The Gathering.Amnesty International believes that Sowing Mycospawn and Troll of Khazad-dûm represent an insidious form of "cruel and unusual punishment" for players who strive for fairness and challenge. No card, no matter how powerful, should be allowed to perpetuate such an oppressive reign over the creativity and joy that defines the Magic community. These cards have been nothing short of a tyrannical force, suffocating the fun and strategy that make the Legacy format a beloved playground for players worldwide. While our advocacy for human rights remains unwavering, we recognize the need to confront all forms of oppression – even when it comes in the form of card games. Let this serve as a warning to other cards that may follow: Amnesty International will not stand idly by while any force, real or imaginary, seeks to rob players of their freedom to enjoy the game in its purest form. We urge Wizards of the Coast to continue to exercise their power to ban cards that stifle creativity, fairness, and joy within the Magic: The Gathering community.Mycospawn and Troll of Khazad-dûm are now sentenced to the deepest dungeons of Magic history. May they rot there, forgotten, as a reminder that no card is above the law of fun.Contact:Amnesty International Press [email protected]+44 20 7413 550000:00:00 The Man, The Myth, The Legend  00:06:00 Buden Brawl Hamburg 202500:14:00 THEY BANNED IT!https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/banned-and-restricted-announcement-march-31-2025Thank you for tuning in,Until next time!Julian

  • Legacy Power Ranking – March ’25 | EP.186
I feel like for the last ~18 months, Legacy has near-constantly been in a state of suspense, anxiously anticipating the next big change. And I can't be alone in disliking it. I enjoy it when not just "the current meta" but the format as a whole settles, and actually allows for people to get deeper into their decks and find their place in the format. It's what initially "entrenched" me into the format, and what I think Magic as a whole could really use. Guess what I'm looking for is a break from the constant hype, change and even just anticipation of the next big thing that might just be around the corner. Note that I don't mean that in a sense of wanting bans to slow down; if anything, quite the opposite. I've always enjoyed Legacy for being somewhat decoupled from the fast pace of what Standard used to be. As such, we're trying to be the change we wanna see, and dive into the depths of not just the format but the meta as a whole to establish what's going on. Yeah, things might surely change again over the course of this year, but I really do enjoy taking a conscious step back and taking a good look at the status quo. Everyone's different, but I feel we haven't done that enough on a greater scale. Less change and anticipation, more admiration!00:00:00 Kai Loves Star Wars Episode II00:10:30 4 Seasons Legacy Review00:29:30 The State of Legacy00:40:00 Legacy Power Ranking / Tier Listhttps://mtgtop8.com/event?e=65665&f=LEhttps://mtgtop8.com/event?e=65900&f=LEThank you for tuning in,Until next time!Julian

  • Out of Control | EP.185
Spurred on by a recent chat on the Eternal Durdles podcast, the boys dive headfirst into the age-old lament: where have all the "real" Control decks gone in Legacy? And, more importantly—what makes one in the first place?Armed with ancient wisdom (a.k.a. some 2007 musings from venerable sage Adrian Sullivan), we attempt to unravel the mysteries of Control, why it’s been all but exiled from Legacy, and whether we’re all (read: not Julian) just hopelessly nostalgic for a bygone era—or, you know, actually onto something.00:00:00 AI Takes Over00:11:00 Strategic Archetype vs Role00:17:25 Adrian Sullivan: The Strategic Moment, 200700:40:30 WTF is going on with Control?!00:53:00 Control Can't Compete01:21:30 The Biggest Problem Nobody Talks Abouthttps://articles.starcitygames.com/articles/whos-the-beatdown/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-A6rU9pA3gwhttps://articles.starcitygames.com/articles/sullivan-library-distinctions-in-strategic-archetypes/https://articles.starcitygames.com/articles/sullivan-library-the-strategic-moment/https://articles.starcitygames.com/articles/sullivan-library-why-midrange-rules-todays-standard/Thank you for tuning in,Until next time!Julian
