Kodai Senga allowed four runs in the first inning and the New York Mets left another 11 men on-base in a 5-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. 

Well, Senga's return to the rotation got off to a rocky start. He walked the first two batters of the game, and then allowed a 3-run home run. Another homer made it 4-0 by the time the inning was over. He was able to settle down after that and get through four innings, but his lengthy first inning all but confirmed it was going to be short outing for the right-hander. 

The bats once again had their chances. They left 11 men on base but wasted chances in the 8th and 9th innings to come back.

The woes continued for the New York Mets in the starting pitching department, as they were blown out in the opener of this series with the Cincinnati Reds, 12-0.

It's pretty simple at this point. The Mets don't have a big league rotation. They don't have five starters they can trust and now, injuries are also starting to pile up. Tobias Myers got the chance to start tonight and he gave up 7 earned runs in just 1.1 innings pitched. 

Things weren't much better for Jonathan Pintaro or David Peterson, who combined to give up five more runs. 

The bats, somehow, had their chances. They left 12 men on base, and had the bases loaded three different times without being able to cash in.
