Locked On Mets - Daily Podcast On The New York Mets

Returning home to start a six-game homestand, the New York Mets were shutout by the St. Louis Cardinals, dropping the opener of this series, 7-0. 

A 4-run third inning is where it went downhill for Freddy Peralta. The first four batters all reached base to get the run started for the Cardinals, who continued to pour it on against Peralta over his six innings of work.

It was a quiet night for the Mets bats, who did have a chance to get a rally going in the bottom of the 4th but Marcus Semien flew out to Nathan Church, who made an adventure of it but was still able to make the catch.

Carson Benge had a career day at the plate, and the New York Mets were able to leave San Diego with a series win after defeating the Padres, 7-3. 

Benge is the highlight of this one, going 5-for-5 with 2 RBI and falling just a double short of the cycle. It was a good afternoon for the Mets offense as a whole, scoring 7 runs on 13 hits. Marcus Semien continued his power surge with yet another HR and MJ Melendez added one of his own, off a lefty. 

It was another opener for the Mets, with Huascar Brazoban getting the duties once again. His scoreless inning paved the way for Sean Manaea, who went just 4 innings as the bulk reliever and allowed two runs. The velocity was down for Manaea in this one and he seemed to run out of gas in that 5th inning.

Luke Weaver kept his scoreless streak in tact, pushing it to 15 straight outings without allowing a run. 

With the win, the Mets finished off a 3-3 road trip and made their last trip to the West Coast for the regular season, going 11-11 in the 22 games played out west.

Nolan McLean battled for the second straight start, but a late homer off of Austin Warren gave the San Diego Padres the lead and they defeated the New York Mets, 3-2. 

McLean didn't have his best stuff again tonight, but battled and threw a career high 101 pitches over six innings of one run ball. 

The offense didn't do much, but a Marcus Semien homer in the 7th gave the Mets a 2-1 lead. Warren came in for the 7th and almost got out of it. But after not being able to make a play to end the inning, he served up a go-ahead 2-run home run to Freddy Fermin.

There was hope for the Mets to comeback, after a pair of singles from Carson Benge and Bo Bichette with Juan Soto at the plate. Soto hit into an unlucky double play to end the inning, and end the Mets comeback hopes. 

The Mets will try to win this series tomorrow afternoon, with Sean Manaea pitching in some capacity.
