Book Club - Interpreter of Maladies

    06/08/2026 | 32 mins.
We've made it to our eleventh book club edition (we think)! This time, we've been reading 'Interpreter of Maladies' by Jhumpa Lahiri. Was Jane won over by the short story form? (We're fairly confident you already know the answer to that!) Plus, the wonderful Laura Hackett, deputy literary editor and fiction editor across The Sunday Times and The Times, joins Jane and Fi to share her thoughts and expertise.

Fi is back on Monday, but Jane is off on holiday for a week, meaning Eve is back in the hot seat.

Thank you so much for all your enthusiasm, engagement and interaction. We hope you'll join us for the next one.

Let's hear it for the bed jacket! (with Groove Armada)

    05/08/2026 | 47 mins.
Jane is over bubble baths! She's matured! Please don't bring it up again. She's onto Epsom salts. Once that's been established, Jane and Fi cover resisting film hype, rowing on the club floor, David Cameron pointing at fish, and Howards' Way being our answer to Dallas.

Plus, electronic music duo Groove Armada discuss 25 years of their anthem Superstylin' and their upcoming hearing-safe gig for over-50s, designed to encourage people to get their hearing checked.

Anyone can take the free three-minute hearing test on the Specsavers website. If you're aged over 50 and take the test, you can join the list for free tickets to Groove Armada's gig at Phonox on Thursday 15 October. Go to Specsavers.co.uk/testlist.

Watering and tending to the clitoris (with Frank Gardner)

    04/08/2026 | 1h 1 mins.
We're somewhere between Jane's morning coffee run and Fi's afternoon Diet Coke run, but we're managing... Jane and Fi cover Margaret Thatcher's bouffant, sparky nighties, the spookiest time of day, and the political message behind Jungle Cruise. Plus, there's a small accent warning for Caroline.

And... he's doubly Frank. It's BBC Security Correspondent and author Frank Gardner, discussing his new novel 'Ballistic'.

Our book club pick is a collection of short stories! 'Interpreter of Maladies' is by Jhumpa Lahiri.

If it doesn't have Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, then I don't want it!

    03/08/2026 | 49 mins.
Jane is back! Back, back! And she returns to Fi's new Jason Derulo-inspired alter ego: they discuss the care system, misguided massage chairs, royal soap shrines, Gillian Anderson's drinks range, and collapsible bidets.

There's no Visualised Monday episode this week - it's just a Monday.

They also bring an update on Fringe By The Sea.

Our book club pick is a collection of short stories! 'Interpreter of Maladies' is by Jhumpa Lahiri.

Sally Slap Cabbage and fag-smoking dollies (with Bettany Hughes)

    30/07/2026 | 55 mins.
A week of supply-teacher chaos concludes! Normal service resumes Monday when Jane, Fi, and Young Eve are reunited. In the meantime, Fi and producer Hannah bring you chain-smoking dolls, dubious plastic rain scarves, and royal Haribo habits.

Plus, Fi speaks to historian Bettany Hughes about all things The Odyssey and her latest children's book 'There Was An Egyptian in Your School'.
