The Bermuda Triangle: The True History Behind the Legend | History for Sleep with Rain Sounds
05/11/2026 | 59 mins.Drift off to the true story of the Bermuda Triangle, the stretch of ocean between Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico that became the world’s most famous sea mystery. In this calm, immersive history for sleep, set to gentle rain sounds, we follow the legend from its very beginning to its surprising resolution.
We start with Christopher Columbus and his drifting compass in the Sargasso Sea. Then the 1609 Sea Venture shipwreck on Bermuda’s “Isle of Devils,” which helped inspire Shakespeare’s The Tempest. From there we follow the unsolved disappearance of the USS Cyclops and its 306 crew members, the loss of the Marine Sulphur Queen, and the haunting story of Flight 19, the five Navy Avenger bombers that vanished in 1945 along with the rescue plane sent to find them. Along the way you’ll hear about the Star Tiger and Star Ariel airliners, how magazine writers and Charles Berlitz’s bestselling book built the Bermuda Triangle legend, and how one librarian’s research uncovered what really happened.
Whether you love unsolved mysteries, maritime history, ocean disappearances, or just need a relaxing bedtime story for adults to help you fall asleep fast, this episode offers a soothing, historically accurate journey through one of the 20th century’s greatest legends.
Sleepless History is a sleep podcast featuring long, immersive history narration over ambient soundscapes, created to help you relax, unwind, and drift off while learning something new.

01/11/2026 | 1h 53 mins. What did Big Tobacco know, and when did they know it? Drift off to the true story of the Cigarette Papers, the leaked internal documents that proved the tobacco industry had confirmed decades earlier that smoking caused cancer and that nicotine was addictive, while telling the public the opposite.
In this calm, long-form history episode for sleep, we follow the story from the first lung cancer studies of 1950 to the court-ordered corrective ads of 2017. The story runs through secret memos, a public relations campaign built on doubt, a paralegal who smuggled thousands of pages out of a Louisville law firm, a mysterious box from “Mr. Butts,” seven tobacco CEOs swearing to Congress that nicotine isn’t addictive, and the whistleblower Jeffrey Wigand.
In this episode:
Doll and Hill, Ernst Wynder, and the tar-painted mice that shocked America
The 1953 Plaza Hotel meeting, Hill & Knowlton, and the “Frank Statement” ad
The Yeaman memo and “doubt is our product,” the industry’s private admissions
The Tobacco Institute, lawyer-directed science, and decades of courtroom wins
Merrell Williams, Stanton Glantz, and the 1994 congressional hearing
The Mississippi lawsuit, the Master Settlement Agreement, the RICO ruling, and the corrective ads
Narrated slowly and gently over soft rain sounds, this sleepy history podcast is made for insomnia, restless nights, and anyone who loves falling asleep to true stories.

29/10/2026 | 55 mins.Six and a half years from a laboratory bench in Berlin to a clear morning over Hiroshima — told slowly over rain sounds to help you fall asleep.
In 1938, two chemists in Berlin split a uranium atom and didn’t believe their own result. Within seven years, the United States had built three secret cities that appeared on no map, employed a hundred and thirty thousand people who almost none of them knew what they were making, and spent two billion dollars with no public debate about what it was for.
Tonight: the discovery nobody wanted, and the letter Einstein called the one great mistake of his life. The general who didn’t want the job and the physicist whose security file should have disqualified him. Silver borrowed from the Treasury and wound into magnets. The crisis in 1944 that nearly made the plutonium useless, and the explosive lenses invented to solve it. A steel tower in the Jornada del Muerto. And the targets, the arguments, and the sixth of August.
This one is handled carefully. There are no sudden noises, no dramatised horror, and no lingering over the worst of it — just a plain, accurate account at a pace you can drift off to. Where historians genuinely disagree about whether the bombs should have been used, both cases are given fairly and neither is pushed.

25/10/2026 | 1h 56 mins. What really fell on a New Mexico ranch in 1947, and what was actually hidden at Area 51? Fall asleep to the complete history of Roswell and Area 51, from the 1947 flying saucer wave to the 2023 UAP congressional hearings, narrated calmly over gentle rain sounds.
This sleep history episode separates the documented record from the legend. In the summer of 1947, pilot Kenneth Arnold’s sighting sparked a nationwide flying saucer craze. Weeks later, rancher Mac Brazel brought strange debris into Roswell. The Army Air Field announced it had captured a “flying disc,” then retracted it within a day as a weather balloon. We follow the 30-year silence, the 1978 revival led by Major Jesse Marcel and Stanton Friedman, and the 1990s peak of Roswell UFO culture. We also cover the Air Force’s Project Mogul explanation.
Then we travel to Groom Lake, Nevada, the real secret. The CIA’s U-2 spy plane, the A-12 Oxcart, Soviet MiG testing, and the F-117 stealth fighter all flew there. The CIA later admitted these flights explained many UFO sightings of the Cold War. Finally, we examine Bob Lazar’s S-4 claims, the Groom Lake toxic burn-pit lawsuit, the 2013 CIA declassification that officially acknowledged Area 51, and where the question stands after the 2021 UAP report, David Grusch’s 2023 testimony, and the Pentagon’s AARO findings.
Whether you’re a UFO history fan, a Cold War aviation buff, or just need something calm and interesting to fall asleep to, this bedtime history podcast is designed to help you relax, unwind, and drift off while you learn.

Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy- The War of the Currents was never really Edison versus Tesla. Here’s what actually happened — told slowly, over steady rain, to help you drift off.
They worked in the same building for about six months in 1884, and that was the whole of it. The electrical war everyone remembers was fought between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse, and by the time it started in earnest, Nikola Tesla had already sold his patents and walked away. The ending isn’t what the story says either: the man who lost control of his life’s work to financiers wasn’t only Tesla. It was Edison too. By 1892 his own name had been stripped off the front of his own company.
Tonight we follow two opposite kinds of mind across forty years — one that thought by building, one that refused to touch a workbench until the whole machine was finished in his head. From a Budapest park at sunset to Pearl Street Station, from the ugliest publicity campaign of the nineteenth century to the lamps of the Chicago World’s Fair, to a tower on Long Island that a banker refused to finish.
And at the end, the myth itself: why the version you’ve heard is barely a decade old, and the year it took hold.
No cliffhangers, no jolts, no raised voices. Just a long, calm, accurate story and the sound of rain.
If you enjoyed this one, listen to “The White City” next — our episode inside the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The two fit together.
