Historic battlefields preserve more than monuments and old earthworks. Some people believe they also preserve moments that were never meant to disappear.
For years, one overnight security guard worked alone across hundreds of acres of Civil War history. He never expected the job to change the way he thought about the battlefield—or the stories longtime employees quietly shared with one another. Some experiences were dismissed.
