About The Northern Soul Podcast

Secret Soul comes from the City of Manchester, UK — widely regarded as the birthplace of Northern Soul. Presented by Colin Skehan, a lifelong music enthusiast who worked as a Manchester club DJ throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. Colin was a resident DJ at the Soul Cellar Bar at the Birch Hotel in Ashton-under-Lyne, spinning records during the formative years of the Northern Soul movement. Between 1973 -1983 he worked behind the decks, and from 1974 to 1977 he also ran his own independent record shop, placing him at the heart of the scene both on the dancefloor ,and behind the counter.
