The Battle of Magdeburg was a real historical event where Protestants and Catholics fought over the city of Magdeburg. This battle was fought to force the Protestants to become Catholic but ended in the massacre of two thirds of the population.

From these horrific events, Gertrud von le Forte writes a novel about an actual wedding in Magdeburg. This novel has been recently translated and published by Ignatius Press, and it is championed by Vivian Dudro. Andrew Petiprin joins Vivian to discuss the historical background of Gertrud von le Forte and the novel itself. They discuss some of the main themes of the novel such as strength in weakness, ecumenism, and Mariology. “The Wedding of Magdeburg” is a true and as of yet unknown classic; you won’t regret picking up this book.
