    William Shakespeare, often called the Bard of Avon, is the greatest playwright in the English language. Born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, he married Anne Hathaway at 18 and had three children. He moved to London in the late 1580s to pursue a career in theatre. Over the next two decades, he wrote 39 plays, 154 sonnets, and two long narrative poems.
