Taylor Swift Today

Paul McCartney has finally told the story of performing at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, he said Swift asked him personally — and asked for "I Want to Hold Your Hand," which he hadn't played live since 1964. She was onstage with him, and he told her: you should sing along, and you should sing it to your man. Lyla also has Taylor's surprise SNL cameo for Dakota Johnson, the extended cut of "Patient Zero," and a very good birthday weekend in Kansas City.

Taylor Swift surprise-released four new songs this week on The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, and the reaction is genuinely split — some critics calling the new material sharper than the original album, others calling a surprise deluxe a cash-in after she insisted the record was complete. Tonight she premieres the "Patient Zero" video, which she directed, at the MTV VMAs, where one win would make her the most-awarded artist in the show's history. Lyla breaks down all four tracks, the reviews, and a very good week in the football stands. 🎵 Four new songs: "Patient Zero," "Cleveland!," "Pink Clouding" and "Babylon," written in Sweden with Max Martin and Shellback.

🎬 The "Patient Zero" video — directed by Swift, starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, shot by Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki — premieres tonight

🏆 Nine nominations, plus the first-ever MTV VMA Artist Director Honors for her work behind the camera

📺 The VMAs air live from Los Angeles, hosted by Snoop Dogg, with Madonna opening the show and Nirvana receiving the Video Vanguard Award

💬 The reviews, honestly: "Cleveland!" is the fan favorite, "Pink Clouding" is taking the hits, and Taylor's own answer to mixed reviews is that she welcomes the chaos

🏈 Tom Cruise says Taylor schooled him on football at the season opener — and told Jimmy Fallon he thinks she's a genius

💍 "That's my husband" — the touchdown celebration heard round the internet, wedding ring and all

Football is back and Taylor Swift was at Arrowhead Monday night, watching the Chiefs open their season with a 31-10 win over Denver — sitting in a suite with Tom Cruise, who was a guest at the July wedding. Lyla gets into the return, plus Mariska Hargitay on Jimmy Kimmel saying she's "still floating" from that night, and a new detail from Joe Buck about how Travis reacted when he first saw Taylor coming down the aisle. And the countdown to September 27, when one VMA win makes her the most-awarded artist in the show's history. Below the fold: 🏈 Monday Night Football at GEHA Field at Arrowhead. Travis pulled in a 59-yard catch; Patrick Mahomes returned from last season's knee injury. Taylor watched with her parents and her mother-in-law.

🎬 Tom Cruise in the suite — the NFL posted the clip themselves.

💍 Mariska Hargitay to Kimmel: the vows were her favorite part of the whole wedding. She also hosted the Primetime Emmys, the first woman to do so in fifteen years, and won two of her own for her documentary about Jayne Mansfield.

😭 Joe Buck says Travis was "a puddle" when Taylor appeared in the Dior gown.

🏆 Nine VMA nominations. She's tied with Beyoncé at 30 career wins. One more breaks it. Voting is still open; the show airs September 27.

Taylor Swift's concert film went zero for five at the Creative Arts Emmys on September 5 — and she wasn't in the room. Instead she was on the East Coast, out to dinner with Travis Kelce the following night in a Stella McCartney dress that Stella herself posted about. Lyla gets into what that choice says, plus the Oscar campaign that's quietly starting, an entire genus of insects named Swiftiephylus, and Alanis Morissette on why the most-loved artists catch the most criticism.

🏆 The Eras Tour: The Final Show lost all five: Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Directing, Picture Editing, Sound Mixing, and Technical Direction and Camerawork. The Muppet Show took Variety Special.

🎬 Director Glenn Weiss was double-nominated — he also directed the 78th Tony Awards.

🎤 Next up: an expected Oscar campaign for "I Knew It, I Knew You" from Toy Story 5.

👗 Stella McCartney called seeing Taylor in the design "an amazing early birthday gift."

🐛 Researchers in Australia named a new genus Swiftiephylus, with species honoring Taylor, Lover, Fearless and The Tortured Poets Department.
