Celtic Exchange: Celtic Football Club in Focus

Since returning once again as Interim Manager, Martin O’Neill has guided Celtic to three wins from three. However, despite those result, there is absolutely no escaping the fact that reinforcements are needed - and urgently - if success is to follow between now and the end of the season.

A brilliant manager he may be, but a magician he is not.

That reality comes into even sharper focus this week, with two pivotal fixtures of very different kinds on the horizon.

First comes the midweek trip to Italy to face Bologna in Europa League action, followed by Sunday’s visit to Tynecastle - a fixture many will regard as a must-win against the league leaders.

Should O’Neill manage to grind out two big results, it would represent a huge step in the right direction.

Let's just hope the steps he has to take beyond that are with a couple of extra options at his disposal in the first-team squad.

It took far longer than Martin O'Neill would have hoped, but Celtic eventually saw off the challenge of Auchinleck Talbot thanks to goals from Johnny Kenny and Sebastian Tounekti at Rugby Park.

The Bhoys now take their place in the Fifth Round of this season's Scottish Cup with a home tie against Dundee and that's the most important thing, but there's no doubt O'Neill would have been hoping for far more from the various fringe players who started this one.

However a win's a win and that's bnow three in three since MON returned, and we can now look ahead to two huge challenges in the shape of Bologna and Hearts in the week ahead!

Celtic's Scottish Cup campaign begins this weekend as they take on Auchinleck Talbot in Fourth Round action.

The game's been switched to Rugby Park and Martin O'Neill will be hoping to make it three wins on the spin against tricky opposition.

With tough away trips to Bologna and to Tynecastle on the horizon we may see some rotation in the starting lineup but either way the Bhoys will need to be on their toes to ensure a straightforward path inti the next round.

Celtic's 1-0 win at the Falkirk Stadium isn't a game you'll ever want to watch back again!

But... the most important thing is that Martin O'Neill's side once again found a way to win, as the Bhoys took all 3 points to keep up the pressure at the top of the table.

It was Benji Nygren once again with the all important goal - his 12th of the season - as Celtic continue to get back on track from what's been a disjointed campaign so far.

There's absolutely no doubt though that this side does NOT have the quality and depth to win this title, and so once again it's all eyes on the club to do the right thing by supporting the manager this January transfer window...

Celtic head to Falkirk this midweek for the first of four away fixtures of a very different nature.

With no room for error at the top of the table nothing but a win will do as Martin O'Neill and his side look to keep up the pressure on both Hearts and Rangers above them.
