A Viking named Rolf sails home after six brutal months at sea—storms, sea serpents, and more mead than any liver ought to endure. He bursts through the door, sword on his back, expecting stew in the pot and a hero’s welcome. Instead, he finds his wife in bed… with another woman.
Rolf freezes. The two women look up, wide-eyed, bracing for the thunder of Norse wrath. But Rolf just blinks, scratches his beard, and says: "By Odin’s beard, I’ve fought dragons, drowned half my crew, and nearly froze me arse off crossing the fjords. And this is the warmest welcome I’ve had all year!”Then he drops his shield and mutters, “Next voyage, I’m bringing more pillows.”

Bass gains more information about the Nikola Tesla journal and the history of how it may have reach Antarctica. Inter-stations relationship are explored as Joyclyn struggles with her role on the station and unease about her life.

I stayed at a hotel with complimentary shampoo. I didn’t need shampoo, but I took it anyway. Because free is my favorite ingredient. Now my bathroom looks like a tiny salon where nobody tips.

 I signed up for a free trial. It lasted seven days. On day eight, they asked for money. I said, “But I thought we were friends.” Turns out we were just acquaintances with terms and conditions.

It’s several weeks after Kendra learns she’s pregnant. The station is ready to celebrate Midwinter’s day, the halfway point of the winter season with good food, great cheer, and the standard telling of scary stories for “Jack’s Night” in Franklin’s room.

I bought a reusable straw to save the turtles. But now I feel guilty every time I don’t use it. I think I just transferred the pressure from turtles to me.
