- Welcome back to Already Beloved, a place to slow down, breathe, and remember that your worth was never something you had to earn.
In this episode, sisters Cambria Davis, a Certified Partner Mentor with the CatholicPsych Institute, and Lexa Davis, a Catholic creative working in evangelization, move from what mentorship is to what it was actually like to receive it. Cambria shares her own story: the stress of graduate school, the eating disorder she discovered underneath it, the therapy and medical care that steadied her, and the daily mentorship that finally reached the relational wounds beneath the symptoms. Together they talk honestly about control, trust, and why therapy and mentorship can each be the right step at different times.
Grab a cup of tea and settle in. Wherever this finds you, in the middle of an ordinary day or a heavy one, you're welcome here.
IN THIS EPISODE:
- Why you can't give what you don't have, and what led Cambria to seek help for herself while training to help others
- How an eating disorder can be a way of grasping for control when life feels out of control, and why that is so human
- Why focusing only on thoughts and behaviors sometimes made the need for control worse instead of better
- What made daily relational mentorship different: talking every day about the body, childhood, current relationships, and the mentoring relationship itself
- Replacing control with trust: trust in yourself, trust in relationship, and trust in the Lord who provides
- Why therapy and medical care matter, and how mentorship can come alongside them or follow them when the time is right
- What a free consultation call is really for: not a sales pitch, but discerning your next good step together, even if that step isn't mentorship
QUOTE TO PONDER:
"Mentorship was able to open greater freedom and really replace control as a coping mechanism with trust. Trust in myself, trust in relationship, and also trust in the Lord that He's going to be providing and taking care of me no matter where I am." - Cambria Davis
SCRIPTURE TO TAKE TO PRAYER:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight." Proverbs 3:5
REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1. Where in your life do you find yourself grasping for control when things feel uncertain or out of your hands?
2. Who walks with you day in and day out, not only in your struggles but in the whole of your story?
3. What would it look like to trust that the Lord is sitting with you, sustaining you and loving you, right in the middle of what you haven't figured out yet?

Learn more about the CatholicPsych Institute: catholicpsych.com - Your worth was never something you had to earn. In this episode of Already Beloved, a Catholic podcast for women at the intersection of the Catholic faith and psychology, sisters Cambria Davis and Lexa Davis tell their own story: how two girls who started out making films together in Florida ended up here, talking about mental health, prayer, and real life through the lens of St. John Paul II's personalism. Cambria Davis is a Certified Partner Mentor with the CatholicPsych Institute. She traces her path from documentary film into psychology, into practicing as a therapist while pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology, and then into discerning away from that program after her master's toward CPMAP certification, the CatholicPsych Model of Applied Personalism. Lexa Davis, a Catholic creative working in evangelization, shares what five and a half years of ministry and street evangelization have shown her, and what she received in her own mentorship. Together they open up what IDDM actually is, Integrated Daily Dialogic Mentorship, and why healing that happens every day can reach places a weekly forty five minute session often cannot. Grab a cup of tea and settle in. Wherever this finds you, in the middle of an ordinary day or a heavy one, you are welcome here. IN THIS EPISODE: • Why Cambria felt limited practicing as a therapist inside a clinical psychology program, sitting with someone she cared about and not being able to bring her faith into the room. • What CPMAP formation and St. John Paul II's personalism gave her that clinical training could not: stages of spiritual growth, discernment of spirits, and a real anthropology of the human person. • What Integrated Daily Dialogic Mentorship looks like in practice: up to fifteen minutes of voice message every weekday, a response back within twenty four hours, through the private encrypted app Voxer. • Why so much can be lost in the week between sessions, when the moment you were struggling in has already passed. • Lexa's honest account of receiving mentorship through an anxious week, talking with her mentor before, during, and after, and why healing was never meant to be alone. • Why they are both quick to say that therapy is good and that it is not one size fits all, and what it means to be walked with as a whole person: body, mind, spirit, and soul. • What corrective emotional experiences and generalization mean, and how being loved in the messy places begins to change your other relationships. QUOTE TO PONDER: "I didn't know that it was an opportunity to be loved so deeply, to be seen, heard, understood, and just loved there. Especially in the moments when things feel messy, when there are a lot of unknowns and you feel imperfect, like you're not getting things just right. And just to be loved there, in those places." Cambria Davis. SCRIPTURE TO TAKE TO PRAYER: "O Lord, you have searched me and known me." Psalm 139:1. REFLECTION QUESTIONS: 1) Where in your life do you carry something alone that was never meant to be carried alone? 2) When you think about being fully seen and known, what rises in you first: relief, or fear? 3) What would be different in your ordinary week if you did not have to get it just right in order to be loved? - Welcome to the very first episode of Already Beloved — a place to slow down, breathe, and remember that your worth was never something you had to earn.
Sisters Cambria and Lexa Davis introduce the heart behind this podcast: real conversations at the intersection of the Catholic faith and psychology, grounded in St. John Paul II's personalism.
Cambria, a Certified Partner Mentor with the CatholicPsych Institute, shares the mission the Lord has placed on her heart — walking with those who have spent years grasping to earn love through perfectionism, performance, body image, and people-pleasing. Lexa, a Catholic creative working in evangelization, shares her own experience of mentorship and why healing was never meant to be alone — we are made for relationship.
Grab a cup of tea and settle in. Wherever this finds you — in the middle of an ordinary day or a heavy one — you're welcome here.
In This Episode:
- Why so many high-functioning, faithful people are still exhausted from grasping to earn love — through how they look, what they accomplish, or getting the routine "just right"
- Cambria's path from clinical psychology training to CPMAP certification and daily relational mentorship with CatholicPsych
- Lexa's experience receiving mentorship — and why we cannot heal alone
- How the spiritual life and mental health are deeply intertwined, and why Jesus, the Prince of Peace, matters for both
- Whether you need to be Catholic to benefit from this kind of accompaniment (you don't)
- What to expect from the podcast: sisterhood, stories, psychology, prayer, and real life
Quote to Ponder:
"So many people are grasping to earn love — through the way they look, through accomplishments, through daily routines they're trying to get just right. My hope is that you would know in your heart that you are already beloved, and that you don't have to grasp to earn love in these different areas of your life."
— Cambria Davis
Scripture to Take to Prayer:
"We love because he first loved us." — 1 John 4:19
Reflection Questions:
1. Where in your life do you find yourself grasping to earn love — appearance, accomplishments, getting it "just right"?
2. Who walks with you in your healing? Where might the Lord be inviting you into relationship?
3. What would change in your ordinary day if you believed your worth was received, not achieved?
