For The Love Of Golf

Why do some sportspeople produce their very best when the pressure is at its highest?

Adrian Meronk arrived at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship needing a big result – and left St Andrews as the champion.

In this episode of For the Love of Golf, Iona Stephen and Dan Walker look at the mindset behind performing when the stakes are enormous. Did Meronk have to overcome the pressure at St Andrews – or did knowing just how much was riding on the week actually help him find another level?

For Meronk, it was also a remarkable full-circle moment. Ten years after turning professional at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, he returned to win on the Old Course – and Iona was there to interview him in the emotional moments immediately after his victory.

Dan and Iona discuss what separates elite performers when everything is on the line, whether pressure can become a source of motivation rather than fear, and their own experiences of moments when they simply had to deliver.

Iona also takes us behind the scenes of a memorable Dunhill week in St Andrews – from Kelly Slater surfing at East Sands to a singalong with Ronan Keating and some of her favourite moments from around the Home of Golf.

PLUS… Golf Dogs returns! This week we meet Yogi at Sunningdale, Fernie at Royal Troon, ball-retrieving Alf and Cruz hunting for lost balls at Royal Porthcawl.

Remember, this is your golf club too. Get into the comments and tell us: do you perform better or worse under pressure?

After winning the Open de France for his fourth victory of 2026, the World No.4 gets the For the Love of Golf treatment. Iona Stephen breaks down what makes Fitzpatrick’s game so good – from his brilliant short game and meticulous use of stats to his preparation and course management – while fellow Sheffield man Dan Walker shares his own stories of Matt and the Fitzpatrick family.

Then it’s time to dissect a dramatic Presidents Cup. The International Team took a 10.5–7.5 lead into Sunday before the USA turned the contest around in the singles to win 17–13. Dan and Iona ask why the Americans are so formidable in singles, what changed on Sunday and what we learned about impressive rookies Jackson Koivun and Jacob Bridgeman.

Iona is also heading home to St Andrews for one of her favourite weeks of the year – the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. She explains what makes Dunhill week so special, why golf is woven into everyday life in St Andrews and what fans should experience if they’re heading to the Home of Golf.

PLUS… Golf Dogs returns! 🐶⛳️ This week we meet Rocky the border terrier, Marley the cockapoo and a couple of dogs very familiar to Iona – Ghille, Gigi & Lass.

🎟️ We’re also giving away TWO VIP tickets for the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Sunday 4 October, including lunch at the Old Course Hotel. Head to the For the Love of Golf Instagram page for full details and to enter.

One year to go until the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor – so who would make the teams if it started tomorrow?

In this special bonus episode of For the Love of Golf, Iona Stephen and Dan Walker become rival Ryder Cup captains and pick the 12 players they would take to Ireland based on everything they’ve seen in 2026.

Iona takes charge of Team USA, while Dan picks Team Europe. They debate the locks, the players who have forced their way into contention, the new faces they’d back in match play, and the big names they’d brutally leave at home.

With both teams locked in, it’s Europe vs USA. Who has the stronger squad? Who would they send out first on Friday morning? What are their dream foursomes and fourballs pairings? And who would they trust in the final singles match with the Ryder Cup on the line?

We’re keeping the receipts and will revisit their picks when the real Ryder Cup teams are confirmed!

💚 Who makes YOUR 12? Send us your Team Europe or Team USA picks in the comments.

In this episode, Iona is fresh from the Solheim Cup at Bernardus and takes us inside Europe’s dramatic victory. Iona and Dan discuss the redemption of Charley Hull and Lottie Woad in the Sunday singles, the rookies who rose to the occasion and why some players seem to come alive when it comes to match play.

They also celebrate an incredible week for Shane Lowry, who returned to the winner’s circle with a dominant 11-shot victory at the Irish Open, 17 years after famously winning his home Open as an amateur.

Then, Walker Cup-winning captain Dean Robertson and Josh Hill join the golf club to relive Great Britain & Ireland’s remarkable comeback at Lahinch. Josh takes us inside the moment he holed the winning putt on the 18th, while Dean reveals what it was like watching it all unfold as captain.

And, after proving very popular in our first episode, Golf Dogs is back! Iona and Dan meet three four-legged members of our growing golf club.
