👻 Is Borley Rectory really the most haunted house in England? Or is there a darker explanation behind one of Britain's most famous paranormal mysteries?
This week on Killers, Cults & Queens, Nikki and Cheryl are joined by comedian, writer and horror enthusiast Robin Ince to investigate the chilling history of Borley Rectory — the infamous Essex house that became synonymous with ghost sightings, unexplained noises and terrifying tales of the supernatural which need to be heard to be believed.

Built beside an ancient church in the small Essex hamlet of Borley, this imposing Victorian rectory was reportedly plagued by paranormal activity for decades. From mysterious footsteps and unexplained knocking to a ghostly nun seen wandering the grounds, the stories surrounding this house have fascinated ghost hunters and paranormal investigators for generations.
But how did Borley Rectory earn its reputation as England's most haunted house? How did the ghosts supposedly come to haunt it, and why are people still fascinated by it all these decades later.

We begin by travelling back through the history of Borley, exploring its ancient church, its connection to the Tudor period and the construction of the enormous rectory itself. We meet the Bull family, who moved into the house in the nineteenth century, and discover how reports of strange happenings began to emerge.
One of the most disturbing legends concerns a spectral nun, reportedly seen by members of the Bull family and others in the area. According to the story, this mysterious figure was connected to a tragic tale of forbidden love, a murdered monk and a nun allegedly walled up alive.
And that's just the beginning.

Was something genuinely supernatural happening inside this house, or was there another explanation?

Expect haunted-house history, Victorian ghost stories, creepy folklore, paranormal encounters and plenty of dark humour along the way.
So light a candle, settle in and join us as we open the door to one of the most notorious haunted houses in British history.

Imagine discovering that your wife has been secretly keeping her lover in the attic… for FOUR YEARS.
In this episode of Killers, Cults & Queens, Nikki and Cheryl head back to the 1920s for one of the strangest true crime stories we've ever covered: the bizarre case of Dolly Oesterreich and Otto Sanhuber.

In 1922, Fred Oesterreich was shot dead inside his Los Angeles home. His wife Dolly was discovered locked inside a pantry, apparently the terrified victim of a robbery gone wrong. But there was one problem: the evidence didn't quite add up.
Because hidden above their heads was Dolly's secret lover, Otto Sanhuber — a young man who had been secretly living in the couple's attic for years.
Otto had originally met Dolly while working at her husband's factory, and their relationship soon developed into a bizarre secret arrangement. After Fred discovered their affair, Otto was fired… but Dolly wasn't prepared to let him go. Instead, she found a way to keep him close — by hiding him in the attic.
For years, Otto lived in secret above Fred's head, helping Dolly around the house, writing pulp fiction and waiting for the opportunity to escape his strange double life.
Then Fred was murdered.

What followed was a bizarre investigation involving a missing gold watch, suspicious lovers, discarded guns, a hidden man in an attic and a conspiracy that remained secret for years.
This is the true story of the man in the attic, one of the strangest forgotten murder cases of the 20th century.

The Titanic sank on 15 April 1912 — but what happened after the ship disappeared beneath the Atlantic?

In the final part of our Titanic series, Nikki and Cheryl go beyond the famous sinking to uncover what happened to the survivors, the dead, and the wreckage left behind. As survivors waited in freezing lifeboats, the RMS Carpathia raced towards them. But rescuing those who survived was only the beginning. Hundreds of people were still missing in the icy Atlantic, and recovery ships were sent back to search for the dead.

In this episode of Killers, Cults and Queens, we get into the darker side of the Titanic disaster: the bodies recovered from the ocean, the difficult process of identifying victims, burials at sea, the aftermath for survivors, the investigations into why Titanic sank, and the safety changes that followed.
