    Homemaker Portrait | Colleen Rockwell

    21/1/2026 | 52 mins.
Send me a one-way text about this episode! I'll give you a shout out or answer your question on a future episode.
Join me for the first Homemaker Portrait of 2026. I'm chatting with In-the-Trenches homemaker, Colleen Rockwell, about homemaking, homesteading and homeschooling. After working many years as a full-time nurse, Colleen left her job to stay home with her 3 children. They moved to a more rural area, got some animals, started homeschooling and haven't looked back.
Colleen admits, "My biggest challenge was, and still is, running my home smoothly, learning the best systems to clean, cook, and preserve food." We cover all of this and more in her story of home. Be sure to listen till the end for this episode's emoji. :)

Send me a one-way text about this episode! I'll give you a shout out or answer your question on a future episode.
Historically, for homemakers, winter was not a time of inactivity, but of different activity; making and mending, close to the hearth, to prepare for the busier days of spring, summer and fall.
Today I want to share some ideas for cultivating your soul, mind and skills through the practice of winter homemaker culture.

Monday Motivation #44 | All in Good Time; Gently Entering a New Year

    12/1/2026 | 11 mins.
Send me a one-way text about this episode! I'll give you a shout out or answer your question on a future episode.
Welcome to the first Monday Motivation of Season 27, our Winter 2026 season of The Art of Home. I am here this cold January morning to motivate you, NOT to jump into New Year, New You plans with all of your might, but rather to enter the New Year from a place of rest and reflection.
    Think About It Questions:
How do you typically spend January? What do you focus on in your homemaking?
If you are tempted to skip the second half of winter and jump headlong into all the self and home improvement projects, what can you do enter the New Year more gently, from a place of rest?
Consider the practice of reflection before resolution. What worked well in your 2025 homemaking? What did not work well? What would you like to leave behind in 2025 and what would you like to bring with you into 2026?
