The Art of Home: A Podcast for Homemakers

We are kicking off Season 28 today a brand new Homemaker Portrait! 
I'm starting this episode with some notes from you out of the mail bag, what to expect this season on the podcast and magazine updates!!
After those updates, I am chatting with my good friend, Kathlena Rule, about her experience of full time homemaking over the past 42 years. Kathlena’s concept of home was shaped by 2 godly parents and a life of constant moving. She loves the change that moving brings and the fact that there are always new people to meet. She and husband, Ed, lived several years abroad and that experience profoundly shaped her homemaking. 
We discuss all of the usual material-strengths, weaknesses, expectations and how to set and keep priorities. Throughout our conversation you’ll hear this theme; the home is a tool, an extension of the people who live there. The people are the point. Home and homemaking provide opportunity and space for unhurried fellowship leading to flourishing relationships with others and with Christ.

As we close out this season of The Art of Home, the fifth and final Act of Courageous Homemaking I'd like to challenge you with is, In the Darkness, Remember. 
When you cannot see the way out, you must cling to the gracious hand of God and let Him guide you. 
You will learn to recognize His hand in the dark when you remember Who He is, what He has done, and what He promises to do.

Well, we are moving right along in our Acts of Courageous Homemaking Series and I have a new installment for you today. I am addressing our tendency to worry. 
The Bible has a lot to say about anxiety, fear and worry; giving us practical help in a world that seems intent on stoking our fears so it can sell us their solutions. 
Whether it’s a political agenda, a fool proof weight loss plan or an apocalyptic survival kit, solutions to our worst fears are hocked on every corner of the internet.
So, are you buying it; or will you intentionally opt out of panic culture, settle your heart in the promises of God and change the world from your kitchen table?

In this final long form episode of our winter 2026 season, I am presenting a portrait of a single homemaker, Brittany Shepard, who has been keeping a home as a single woman for many years.
Though being single in her 40s is not what she expected, she has learned to see the unique value and beauty of the life God has given her right now. 
Brittany is, by nature, a storyteller and story keeper. She loves filling her home with family heirlooms and vintage treasures, so much so that her passion has grown into a flourishing side business called The Sentimental Decorator. 
Whether she’s gathering women around the shared love of story-keeping or gathering family and friends around her dinner table set with treasured dishes, Brittany understands how to leverage the home and her singleness to bring people together and foster a place of welcome and belonging for whomever God puts in her path.
