It's become one of the most common accusations in modern Christianity. If you raise a concern about sin, "You're a Pharisee." Call out a false teacher, "You're a Pharisee." Question whether a celebrity Christian is truly in Christ, "You're a Pharisee." Defend biblical holiness, "You're a Pharisee." But is that actually what a Pharisee was? Today, the label has become a catch-all insult used to shut down biblical criticism rather than answer it. Today, we'll look at how rapper Lecrae invoked the term against Christians who objected to Lil Nas X's open blasphemy, as well as against a street preacher. We'll also examine how Pastor Alistair Begg used the charge in the controversy surrounding his advice that a grandparent should attend their grandchild's same-sex wedding. Are these truly examples of Pharisee behavior? Or has the word "Pharisee" become a convenient way to dismiss anyone who takes sin, doctrine, and holiness seriously?

Ariana Grande has just released a new music video for her song "petal", and it is a disturbing picture of violence, homicidal horror and the darkness surrounding the pursuit of fame. But perhaps most interesting part isn't where Ariana Grande is today, but how she got here. Because if you rewind the clock, you'll find a young Ariana Grande beginning her career as a Nickelodeon star to now slashing up her critics in her music videos. The transformation came from God Is A Woman's explicit sexual imagery, religious inversion, lyrics about making deals with the devil, and now being a costar, to her interesting relationship with Cynthia Erivo, and now the music video "petal". Is she merely pushing artistic boundaries? What is the most misunderstood verse in the entire Bible? Is it Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"? Or is it Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you"? Or could it be the verse that the world seems to know better than any other, even if they've never opened a Bible? "Judge not, lest ye be judged." It's quoted by celebrities, politicians, atheists, and even professing Christians whenever someone's behavior is challenged. In today's culture, it has become the ultimate conversation stopper, as though the greatest sin isn't hypocrisy, immorality, unbelief, or anything else, but simply telling someone that they happen to be wrong. But is this really what Jesus meant? Was Christ forbidding all judgment? Or has one of His most famous statements been ripped from its context and turned into the exact opposite of what He really intended?
