The Spice Girls story starts here. In Part 1 of our POP 101 deep dive, we break down how five strangers who answered a newspaper ad became the biggest pop group on the planet, from the Heart Management auditions and the "Touch" era all the way through their debut album “Spice” and the “Wannabe” explosion.
This is a full, honest discussion of the come-up: how they ran away from their first managers with the demo tapes, found Simon Fuller, signed to Virgin, and overruled the entire record label to make "Wannabe" the lead single. We get into the Union Jack dress, the birth of "Girl Power," the Peter Lorraine nicknames, cracking America, and the "manufactured vs. self-made" debate that follows this group forever.

SHINee are back with "Atmos," their sixth mini album and first release in about a year, dropped June 1, 2026 through SM Entertainment to mark the group's 18th anniversary.
