Manifestation, physical energies, and other new age practices require us to look into ourselves to find the truth because we have the complete power to control our destiny. I think the most important thing we can take away is that it focuses on constructing truth rather than learning truth. This is super important because constructing subjective truths leave us with more mysteries and are unsustainable for the future generations of orthodox christians. Subjective truths dilute the power in each teaching/practice/tradition and overall structure Christ left us. Today we have here, Father Anthony Messah from St. Timothy and St. Athanasius (STSA) Church is a Coptic Orthodox Church of Arlington, VA. You may also know Father Anthony on the podcast The Well, where they discuss relevant, thought-provoking topics that challenges us to understand our faith more personally and engage in it more practically. They aim to “bring an Ancient Faith to a Modern World.

  • The Misconceptions of Godly Dating and Relationship
Like never before, people invest so much in relationships and like never before we are so disillusioned by what it means to be in a relationship that is truly meant for us. We’ve discussed before, in our purity episode specifically, how as Christians we are called to live a sanctified life. Meaning, we are set apart from others and our faith calls us to engage in the world with Christ in the center. The disillusion our generation faces when it comes to relationships can be associated with social media, dating apps, social movements and more. One of the most shocking situations for us is when a couple we’ve kept up with on social media or tv suddenly break up because we’ve only seen highlight reels of their relationship. They don’t even have to be famous. How about that really cute couple you see at church? Or the couple that romanticise Christian relationships on instagram? They make it seem so easy. Unknowingly, we begin to idealize and covet the relationships of others … leading us to misconceptions. The overall theme of this season is that we often revise our faith to deal with the decisions we’ve made that don't necessarily align with God’s word or plan for us. And in this episode we’ll break down the four misconceptions most people view as normal but stem from not understanding the freedom that is rooted in r/ships God meant for us. We want to thank you guys for contributing your thoughts on our instagram stories, it’s helped us so much with creating content. Another note for our listeners is we have a complete series uploaded on youtube called Dating Back to Purity and its corresponding notes on our website which is yotc.org and YouTube: YoungOTC. • Misconceptions of Sex
Last episode, we talked about the misconceptions around purity and purity culture, and what it truly means to live a life of purity as God meant it for us, and the way forward. When we think about what and how we’ve been informed about sex, God is not the first thing we think about. We are surrounded by a multitude of influences like music, movies, shows, friends, etc that often shape the way we think about this topic. This episode will break down the misconceptions our generation has and the applications we can use to change our spiritual and physical life. If you’re interested, we have a complete series of Dating in Purity uploaded on youtube and its corresponding notes on our website which is yotc.org and YouTube: YoungOTC. This weeks episode is from week 5. In the meantime, email feedback or questions to [email protected] and follow our Instagram @young_otc for regular updates. • Side Effects of Purity Culture
We’re Kicking off with a subject that is lowkey saturated but lacks quality. We're talking about Purity and the culture surrounding it. The dialogue surrounding purity has been watered down to attaching purity to your value and a physical event. In addition to purity being centered around abstinence, we also see purity culture in the way we discuss how women and girls dress or conduct themselves, eternal damnation, and much more. These structures that make a purity culture encourages stigma and shame. And to cope with that discomfort of what living in purity means, we often find ourselves revising our faith. We’ll learn what the faith really teaches us and real life applications to free ourselves from shame, guilt and isolation that purity culture has offered us. If you enjoyed this episode email us feedback or questions to [email protected] and follow our Instagram @young_otc for regular updates. Make sure to share our podcast, you have the power to share Christ’s message and YOTC’s mission! Thank you for listening to Revisionist Faith. We’ll catch up with you in two weeks, bye!
