  • EP117: Murder, Metal, and Mayhem
Visit Patreon.com/psychopediapod for loads of exclusive content and to join our family of psychos! Trigger warning: This episode discusses difficult topics including suicide, homicide, and other forms of trauma.  Please listen with caution. What comes to mind when you think of "black metal" music? Face paint, screams laced with hate, rage, aggression. Most metalheads might talk a big game about Satan, death, and destruction, but in reality are often mild-mannered accountants or kindergarten teachers who can’t even stand the sight of blood. But what if the darkness wasn’t just for show? What if the chaos, the obsession with death, and the destruction wasn’t a stage persona but a way of life (and death)? This was the grim reality for Mayhem, a Norwegian black metal band formed just outside Oslo in 1984, widely regarded as the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene. Their infamy goes far beyond the music they created or the genre they helped define—it’s rooted in the pure, unrelenting chaos, violence, and nihilism they embodied. Onstage, offstage, and in the very depths of their existence, they lived what many would only dare to perform: satanic worship, neo-Nazism, arson, cannibalism, suicide, and murder. As the band name suggests, this case is absolute mayhem. • EP116: Prayed To Death
Visit Patreon.com/psychopediapod for exclusive content and join our family of psychos! Elizabeth Struhs was a bright, beautiful 8-year-old girl whose precious life depended on insulin to manage her diabetes. Tragically, her parents, members of a fringe religious group in Australia called The Saints, followed a strict, literal interpretation of Christianity and the Bible. They rejected modern medicine in favor of prayer, believing it was the only path to healing for Elizabeth. As a result, this vulnerable little girl—unable to advocate for herself—suffered and died in front of the entire congregation. A room full of adults stood silently, eyes closed in prayer, while refusing to provide Elizabeth the one thing that could have saved her life. For The Saints, every moment of existence was meant to be devoted to worshiping God, no matter the cost—even if that cost was the life of an innocent child. • EP115: Assassination to Asylum (feat Chris DiStefano)
Visit Patreon.com/psychopediapod for exclusive content and join our family of little freaks and semen demons! Joining us today is Chris Distefano, NY based stand up comedian. He is the host of Chrissy Chaos and the co-host of History Hyenas. Chris is headlining the world famous Madison Square Garden on September 11, 2025 and has a brand new comedy special out on Hulu. WARNING: Investigator Slater barely made it through the recording of this episode. It’s a wild ride, so fasten your seatbelt and prepare yourself—this conversation takes some unexpected, "unpredictable" turns. So the real question is: Other Than That Mrs. Slater, How Was The Podcast?  On a crisp April evening in 1865, the play Our American Cousin was set to impress a full house. With President Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, in attendance, the air was electric with excitement. But suddenly, the sharp crack of a Derringer pistol shattered the atmosphere, and a .44 caliber lead ball lodged into the back of President Lincoln’s head, irrevocably altering the course of history in an instant. While history has rightly fixated on the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the peripheral figures in that fateful theater box bear their own harrowing, often overlooked stories. The gripping tale of Henry Rathbone and Clara Harris, forever intertwined with the brutality of that night, is one of heroism, relentless trauma, and the insidious toll of mental decline, PTSD, survivor's guilt, and, tragically, murder.   Instagram + Threads: @psychopediapod @tank.sinatra @investigatorslater Patreon: www.patreon.com/psychopediapod Email: [email protected] Website: www.psychopediapodcast.com To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Visit Patreon.com/psychopediapod for exclusive content and join our family of little freaks and semen demons! In Part 2 of our coverage of serial killer Harvey Glatman, we delve into one of the darkest, most chilling criminal minds in American history. Harvey Glatman’s reign of terror left an indelible mark on both the innocent lives he claimed and the criminological community, as his crimes exposed the harrowing depths of human depravity. Over the course of several years, his brutal acts shattered the public's sense of security, offering a haunting glimpse into the darkness that can fester beneath the surface of ordinary life. Glatman’s fixation on domination, control, and the infliction of suffering grew from an early obsession with bondage and sadistic imagery, eventually evolving into meticulously orchestrated, horrific crimes. As we explore the psychological underpinnings of his actions, it becomes clear that Glatman’s mind was driven by a need to assert ultimate power—using fear and violence as tools to manipulate, dominate, and break his victims in the most unspeakable ways.
