The Lamb by Lucy Rose | Cannibal Mom, an Isolated Cabin & One Very Traumatized Child

This week on The Book Fix Podcast, Yajaira and Cheli are continuing spooky season with The Lamb by Lucy Rose, and apparently September has become the month of cannibalistic families.
The Lamb follows eleven-year-old Margot, who lives alone with her mother, Ruth, in an isolated cabin where lost travelers, known as “strays” have a habit of disappearing. To Margot, her mother’s hunger for human flesh is simply a normal part of life. She loves Ruth, wants desperately to understand her, and even hopes that one day she’ll feel the same hunger her mother does. But when a woman named Eden enters their lives and completely shifts the dynamic inside the house, Margot slowly begins to realize that maybe she doesn’t want to become her mother after all.
With an isolated cabin, a deeply dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship, cannibalism, childhood innocence, family secrets, toxic love, and plenty of unsettling horror, The Lamb is definitely not your average coming-of-age story. So, will this dark and disturbing tale of a girl questioning everything she’s ever known fix your life? Stay tuned to find out.

This week on The Book Fix Podcast, Yajaira and Cheli are back with another Reddit No Sleep story and this one is less traditionally spooky and more emotionally devastating. They dive into a chilling tale about a man whose soul is attacked by a mysterious parasite, causing him to experience his life completely out of order.
One moment he is meeting the love of his life, Mar, and the next he is discovering they have been married for years and share a child he does not remember. As he jumps unpredictably between first dates, parenthood, old age, and encounters with a grandson determined to save him, the story becomes a heartbreaking exploration of memory, love, grief, and whether knowing how everything ends would change the choices we make.
Yajaira and Cheli discuss the horrifying creature attached to the narrator’s mind, the bittersweet romance at the center of the story, and an ending that completely changes how they interpret everything that came before it. The conversation also gets deeply personal as they reflect on Alzheimer’s, aging, caring for loved ones, loneliness, and the importance of community. Prepare to be creeped out, emotionally wrecked, and possibly afraid of every forgotten name or misplaced memory.

This week on The Book Fix Podcast, Yajaira and Cheli are kicking off spooky season with Brother by Ania Ahlborn and somehow, a cannibalistic serial-killer family is only the beginning of the nightmare.
The story follows Michael Morrow, a teenager trapped in an isolated family whose idea of a normal night involves kidnapping young women and making sure nothing goes to waste. Michael has spent most of his life believing escape isn’t really an option… until he meets Alice, a girl working at a local record store who gives him his first glimpse at what a normal life could actually look like.
Will this gruesome tale of a cannibalistic family, generational trauma, toxic sibling dynamics, and one boy desperately searching for a way out fix your life? Or will Brother leave Yajaira and Cheli just as emotionally scarred as Michael? Stay tuned to find out.

This week on The Book Fix Podcast, Yajaira and Cheli dive into another terrifying Reddit NoSleep story and this one might make you permanently enable Do Not Disturb.
At exactly 2:17 a.m., a man receives a phone call from his own number. On the other end is his own voice, warning him not to open the door, not to look into the mirrors, and most importantly, not to answer anything in his own voice. What follows is a nightmare of impossible phone calls, backward-facing feet, voices from the dead, and a creature determined to force a confession from him.
After surviving the story, Yajaira and Cheli unpack its themes of guilt, sacrifice, and facing the darkest version of yourself. They also share their own creepy experiences with prank calls, scam calls, chain messages, internet jumpscares, and the absolutely lawless early days of the internet. Would they answer a call from their own number? Definitely not. Grab your headphones, silence your phone, and whatever you do, don’t answer in your own voice.

This week on The Book Fix Podcast, Yajaira and Cheli are closing out Detective Month with their final, and most terrifying case yet: The Deep by Nick Cutter.
Humanity is being devastated by a mysterious plague known as the ’Gets, an illness that causes people to slowly forget everything. With no cure in sight, hope emerges from the darkest depths of the Pacific Ocean, where scientists discover a strange substance called ambrosia that may be capable of healing any disease.
For their final investigation, Detectives Yajaira and Cheli are heading into the deep to examine the evidence, confront the horrors lurking inside the Trieste, and determine whether this claustrophobic nightmare is a case worth cracking, or one that should have stayed buried at the bottom of the ocean.
Join us as we close the case files on Detective Month and give our final verdict on The Deep by Nick Cutter.
