  • The Sultans of Spring
Send us a text In this episode I recount what it is that draws me out into the field to sound record birds, how my interest in field recording initially formed and how it has developed, over the past several years. The main feature, an extensive sound magazine then follows, with some high quality audio of a range of wonderful species from here in Sweden, all recorded over the Spring of 2024. At the time, I was travelling to various sites and making a special effort to secure some very high quality recordings at a number of very special venues. Many of these trips were made under the cover of darkness in order toavoid any noise pollution, a tactic which was generally highly successful and the result was some very special soundscapes indeed. Join me, in order to enjoy these stunning recordings, during a period when migrant species are returning to the landscape and fill the air with their wonderful song...Support the showSubscibe to Wild Bird Acoustics here;https://wildbirdacoustics.buzzsprout.comLots more audio related material here at my long running website;https://blogbirder.blogspot.com/

  • The Quest for Black Gold
Send us a textIn this episode, in the first instance, I take a closer look at the vocalisation of two common migrant species here in Sweden over the Autumn period, Eurasian Siskin and Common Redpoll. Both these widespread European species are common migrants and an understanding of the calls given by both, whilst actively migrating, is fundamental to any birder with an interest in observing migrating passerines in the fall period. Following this, the main sound magazine in this episode, concerns itself with one of the most iconic species of mature Swedish woodland. I have made extensive efforts to record Black Woodpecker over the years and this sound magazine documents my efforts to do so. Join me an a wonderful acoustic journey, through the sprawling woodlands of wild Sweden...Support the showSubscibe to Wild Bird Acoustics here;https://wildbirdacoustics.buzzsprout.comLots more audio related material here at my long running website;https://blogbirder.blogspot.com/

  • The Identification of Autumn Pipits by Sound
Send us a textIn this episode, I run through a few random recording from various locations, made over the course of 2024, in order to warm the listeners up and ease them into the New Year with a relaxing sound magazine, full of ambient sound ans bird sound... Following this gentle introduction, the main sound magazine  is a more detailed treatment of one on my favourite groups of migrants here in Sweden. During the course of Autumn, various species of Pipit are a migratory staple here in Sweden. In this carefully put together sound magazine, I detail the migratory calls of several species of diurnally migrating Pipits and share a large amount of audio in the process. I hope this will be of interest to those listeners who enjoy the study of visible migration. Support the showSubscibe to Wild Bird Acoustics here;https://wildbirdacoustics.buzzsprout.comLots more audio related material here at my long running website;https://blogbirder.blogspot.com/

  • The Wild and the Innocent; Why not come out Tonight?
Send us a textIn this, the first episode of the second season of Wild Bird Acoustics, I offer a small educational piece on the vocalizations of Northern Bullfinch, a regular migrant here in Sweden, which periodically appears elsewhere in Europe.Following that, a simple sound magazine of a nocturnal trip to Bro Reserve in Sweden, a wonderful site filled with magical bird sounds, free of man made noise. On this special night, I made some wonderful recordings on a night when the ether was filled with the sounds of newly arrived Thrush Nightingale, Sedge Warbler, Common Crane and a host of other species. Listen in and relax to the sounds of wild Sweden...Support the showSubscibe to Wild Bird Acoustics here;https://wildbirdacoustics.buzzsprout.comLots more audio related material here at my long running website;https://blogbirder.blogspot.com/

  • It's a Wrap; The Season Finale
Send us a textIn the final episode of the opening season I begin with a lovely sound magazine of random recordings made here in Sweden, with some wonderful recordings of a wide range of species for the listener's to enjoy...I talk a little about my thoughts for the upcoming second season, with a few thoughts on the direction of the podcast in the future as well as discussing the journey of the podcast to date.A second sound magazine deals with nocturnal migration, before a third concrening diurnal migration is presented. Both of these detail vocalizations of migrating birds in the skies over Sweden, a subject that I am deeply interested in. I hope these will be informative and of practical use for enthusiasts of birders with an interest in this area. Finally, I finish with a wonderful, long recording of a special species, a wonderfully atmospheric recording of very high quality, which I hope listeners will enjoy. Support the showSubscibe to Wild Bird Acoustics here;https://wildbirdacoustics.buzzsprout.comLots more audio related material here at my long running website;https://blogbirder.blogspot.com/
