For guests of Dromoland, that’s the feeling they tell me they get at the Castle, it’s about the feeling of home, comfort and about the interaction with our staff.”

Our work is ever-changing, which makes it challenging and exciting. We are constantly developing and enhancing our product to deliver the best service and experiences for all our guests. In this series we will hear about the history of Dromoland Castle, the people who work there and what is in store for guests who visit. On today's episode we meet Dorothea Madden, the Head Gardener of Dromloand, who has worked in the Walled Gardens since 1988. In her time here, Dorothea has played an enormous role in transforming the gardens of the estate to the floral heaven that is adored by our guests today. Dorothea says that her greatest achievement in her time here has been the restoration of two of Dromoland’s walled gardens. ‘It was infested with briars but we hand-dug every inch of it,’ she remembers.
