It’s another full house on the ITBR! Joining us today are Professors Angela Weisl, Liz Schmermund and Elizabeth Redwine! Nolan’s “The Odyssey” adaptation was the biggest hit of the summer, spanning a massive production with Hollywood A-Listers that some would call his most ambitious film yet. But…how did it land with scholars?
Being familiar with the source material, we dug into all the changes made from the book, what we enjoyed and what could have been improved upon. From the characterization of the titular character Odysseus to the portrayal of Circe, we made sure to touch as many bases as possible within this epic adaptation of the classic story!

Joining us today on the ITBR is Professor Cindy Weinstein, who brought such a touching and deeply personal conversation to the table surrounding the stages of following a family member through dementia, grieving someone who's still alive and how it effects the writing process.
Professor Weinstein wrote Finding the Right Words around the peak of Covid. It follows her decades-long journey to come to terms with her father's dementia as both a daughter and an English professor. Being in a deeply vulnerable state in isolation was used as a vessel for writing and resulted in a deeply profound and personal read, guaranteed to touch the hearts of anyone regardless of if you've gone through a similar experience.

Awais Khan is here! It's been a minute since we've had some culture talk on the ITBR, so who better than Awais! Awais is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and Durham University and has studied Creative Writing at Faber Academy in London.
As a Pakistani man, he's seen and faced prejudice (especially from the western world) first-hand whether it be about Pakistani cities or their people-and used those experiences as inspiration as a creative person and educator.
