On today’s episode of the ITBR, I’m joined by author Neil Adams. His memoir, From The Pile: A 9/11 First Responder’s Story, recounts the events that took place at Ground Zero on September 11th. From The Pile tells the true story of Michael Dorian — a man who faced stigma, illness, and loss yet continued to choose compassion.
When the world changed on September 11, 2001, Michael ran toward danger to help others. That act of service defined his legacy and revealed the depth of his courage.
We had a powerful discussion remembering the lives lost that day, the long term ramifications of the health of thousands of New Yorkers and the War on Terror that soon followed that brought unspeakable damage to the people of Iraq.

It’s another full house on the ITBR! Joining us today are Professors Angela Weisl, Liz Schmermund and Elizabeth Redwine! Nolan’s “The Odyssey” adaptation was the biggest hit of the summer, spanning a massive production with Hollywood A-Listers that some would call his most ambitious film yet. But…how did it land with scholars?
Being familiar with the source material, we dug into all the changes made from the book, what we enjoyed and what could have been improved upon. From the characterization of the titular character Odysseus to the portrayal of Circe, we made sure to touch as many bases as possible within this epic adaptation of the classic story!

Joining us today on the ITBR is Professor Cindy Weinstein, who brought such a touching and deeply personal conversation to the table surrounding the stages of following a family member through dementia, grieving someone who's still alive and how it effects the writing process.
Professor Weinstein wrote Finding the Right Words around the peak of Covid. It follows her decades-long journey to come to terms with her father's dementia as both a daughter and an English professor. Being in a deeply vulnerable state in isolation was used as a vessel for writing and resulted in a deeply profound and personal read, guaranteed to touch the hearts of anyone regardless of if you've gone through a similar experience.
