On June 17th the LA skyline was disturbed by a cloud of thick smoke emanating from a cold storage warehouse fire in Boyle Heights. This resulted in a Fallout 76 style rat infestation, biblical swarms of flies, and the putrid stench of rotting meat filling every home in the surrounding area. After a brief overview of the fire, Liv begins this episode with a few references to the hit show Chernobyl and then follows up with a few more references to the hit show Chernobyl before taking a look at the city’s lackluster response to the fire and the cleanup operation that ensued. Jake, Julian, Liv and Travis are joined by investigative journalists Abner Häuge and Haley Orion, who traveled to Provo, Utah, to cover the preliminary hearings for Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk. They report on the conspiracy circus outside the courthouse: Candace Owens fans camping overnight for fourteen public seats, TPUSA influencers begging their own audience to stick to the facts, and innocent bystanders being doxxed as part of theories involving an exploding microphone and the “Maroon Shirt Boys.” The group also examines the anti-trans narratives surrounding Robinson’s partner, the harassment of Hunter Kozak and other witnesses, and the struggle over Kirk’s legacy as the conspiracy machine runs without interruption.

Dickson shares the perspective she’s gained on reporting on influencer culture, parasocial relationships, and AI manipulation.

Along the way the crew ponders whether humanity will actually have to lose a war to AI in order to get plugged into an illusory Matrix-like world or if people will walk into it willingly so long as they can interact with their favorite synthetic influencers.
