Recap Kickback

Welcome to Recap Kickback where we chop it up about television, movies, and music - while being sure to highlight black media any chance we get!

Last week, Chappell and Mari talked about the first two episodes of the Netflix reboot of "A Different World". This week they are back to talk about the whole series.

This season was all about big moments including, STI scares, romances, and betrayal all taking place on the campus of the most famous fictional HBCU in the country, Hillman College.

And of course Chappell and Mari have to reminisce about their time at their prestigious HBCUs.

What did you think about the season? Let us know in the comments.

A Different World is back — and Chappell and Mari are kicking off their Recap Kickback coverage by talking about the first two episodes of the 2026 reboot on Netflix.

But this isn't just a recap.

While discussing the first two episodes, Chappell and Mari find themselves talking about their own HBCU experiences, the people and moments that shaped them, and the ways that college life at an HBCU can be very different from what you see on screen.

From the first impressions of the new A Different World to conversations about HBCU culture, friendships, campus life and the experiences that come with attending an HBCU, this episode turns into a conversation about what the show gets right, what feels familiar, and what brings back memories from their own college days.

Welcome to Recap Kickback where we chop it up about black entertainment news and discuss all of our favorite movies and shows.

Last week Chappell and Gia talked about “Why Did I Get Married” but this week they are discussing the chaos of “Why Did I Get Married Too”!

In Episode 2 of 3 of the Recap Kickback’s Why Did I Get Married? franchise recap, Chappell and Gia revisit the second of Tyler Perry’s series of films following the 4 couples (or what’s left of the couples) on their retreat.

But this movie has the characters acting brand new. Check out this review to hear Gia and Chappell discuss the villainous actions of some of the fan favorites from the first movie.

WHO WAS THE VILLAIN THIS TIME!? Spoiler alert. It ain’t mike.
