In this enchanting and deeply personal conversation, Kanani Soleil sits down with artist, herbalist, and owner of Necessary Magic, Annie Aube, to explore the magic that grows right beneath our feet.
From her childhood in rural Alaska to building a thriving spiritual business in Astoria, Annie shares how her path unfolded through creativity, hardship, and a profound connection to the natural world. What began during the uncertainty of 2020 as a way to survive quickly transformed into a calling rooted in foraging, intention, and ritual.
Together, Kanani and Annie dive into the art of crafting herb bundles, the importance of ethical sourcing, and the often misunderstood practices around cleansing and smoke rituals. Annie also breaks down her work with runes and bind runes, offering insight into how personalized symbols can become powerful tools for intention-setting and spiritual growth.
This episode is a love letter to plant magic, creative resilience, and the quiet ways the universe nudges us toward our purpose.

BIO
Annie Aube is an artist, herbalist, and the owner of Necessary Magic, a spiritual goods shop rooted in intention, craftsmanship, and deep reverence for the natural world. Raised in rural Alaska, Annie’s connection to nature began early, spending her childhood exploring forests, speaking with plants, and creating with whatever the land provided.
Her path into herbal magic began unexpectedly in 2020, when a period of upheaval led her to rediscover her creative instincts through foraging and crafting herb bundles. What started as a personal practice quickly evolved into a thriving business centered on ethically sourced herbs, ritual tools, and handmade objects designed to bring healing, beauty, and meaning into everyday life.
Drawing from Norse and Celtic pagan traditions, Annie incorporates rune work, bind runes, and plant magic into her practice, creating pieces that blend ancient symbolism with modern intention. Now based in Astoria, Oregon, she spends her days foraging, gardening, crafting, and continuing to deepen her relationship with the plants and energies she works with.
