Ep 200: Dakar Unsupported, Desert Survival & Life on the Edge with Neil Hawker

    05/08/2026 | 2h 19 mins.
CONTACT ME - leave a text or VOICEMAIL
For the 200th episode of Bru Time, Bruce is joined by multi-time Dakar finisher, ex-military veteran, firefighter, and BMW Off-Road Skills instructor Neil Hawker.

Neil shares an unfiltered look into the world's toughest motorcycling challenge: the unsupported Original by Motul (Malle Moto) class at the Dakar Rally. Discover what it takes to service your own bike at 2 AM after riding 1,000 km across the Saudi desert, how 13 years in the British Army built his unbreakable mental game, and why he still gets the biggest buzz out of teaching complete novices how to ride off-road.

Plus, we answer your listener questions covering:
    - What would happen if Neil ran the Dakar Rally?
    - Can Chinese bike manufacturers genuinely win Dakar?
    - The best adventure bike setup for taller/larger riders.
    - Life after the military and finding camaraderie in the fire service.

Bru Time 199: Riding 6,000 Miles to the Arctic Circle - Stan Hulme 'The Inspired Rider'

    29/07/2026 | 2h 44 mins.
CONTACT ME - leave a text or VOICEMAIL
In Episode 199 of BRU TIME, Bruce chats with Stan Hulme ('The Inspired Rider') about his extraordinary 6,121-mile solo expedition from Leicester to Nordkapp in northern Norway, raising funds for Alex's Wish.

Stan’s journey is a masterclass in resilience. Before leaving, he survived a severe bout of Delta COVID-19, a mini-stroke (TIA), and a total final-drive failure on his 17-year-old BMW GS. On the road, he faced closed international borders, an exposed tooth abscess, charging moose, washed-out bridges, and a brutal Arctic storm that left him stage-one hypothermic at -10°C.

    Key Points:
    • The origin of 'The Inspired Rider' & supporting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (Alex's Wish)
    • Overcoming major health setbacks & returning to fitness
    • Real-world lessons on solo packing, wild camping, and navigation in Scandinavia
    • Highs and lows of riding Norway’s national routes (FV13, Lysebotn, Trollstigen)
    • Navigating emergencies with the help of community, gas stations, and Bunker Bikers
    • Community Q&A: Ideal adventure bikes (Tuareg 660 vs GS), advanced riding myths, and fitness for motorcyclists.

Bru Time #198 - The Reality of Bespoke Motorcycle Design with Jonathan Hull

    22/07/2026 | 2h 27 mins.
CONTACT ME - leave a text or VOICEMAIL
Custom motorcycle builder Jonathan Hull from Jonathan Hull & Son Bespoke Motorcycles joins me for episode 198 of the Bru Time Podcast to discuss his limited-run Northman project.
In this honest, unpolished conversation, we dive into the true graft behind the custom motorcycle scene. Jonathan shares the dark financial realities of running an independent workshop, the pressure of legacy craftsmanship, and why he completely reset his business approach.
We detail his recent engineering battle with the Honda GB 350 S factory warranty, dropping 15kg from a machine to master the power-to-weight ratio, and mastering high-temperature 3D printing in-house. We also answer listener questions regarding nightmare customer expectations, family history, personal creative focus, and what our ultimate motorcycle setups look like for the apocalypse.

Bru Time197 - Small Bikes, Massive Miles, & Touring Ireland in a Tuk Tuk with Dean Lambert

    15/07/2026 | 1h 58 mins.
CONTACT ME - leave a text or VOICEMAIL
Can you really ditch a 1200cc adventure bike for a 125cc mini bike and have MORE fun?

In this episode of Bru Time, Bruce sits down with Dean Lambert from "Monkey Dix Adventures" to explore the growing world of small-CC motorcycle touring. Dean shares his journey from moving heavy cruisers and adventure touring rigs to completing a grueling 4,000-mile solo endurance loop of the UK coastline on a tiny Honda.

We also explore Dean’s recent clockwise trek around the entire coast of Ireland in a utilitarian Tuk Tuk, complete with wild, unexpected roadside encounters, Irish hospitality, and a late-night accordion session in a hand-built yurt.

Beyond the machinery, this is an incredibly honest conversation about mental health. Dean opens up about his personal experience with a sudden anxiety breakdown, the psychological tools that helped him take back control, and his ongoing work as a facilitator for the UK-wide charity Andy’s Man Club. We also discuss his role as an ambassador for Boot Out Breast Cancer and how community support can carry you through the toughest miles.

Whether you ride a massive touring rig or a small scooter, this episode will challenge everything you think you need for a proper adventure.

CONTACT ME - leave a text or VOICEMAIL
On this week’s episode 196 of Bru Time, Bruce sits down with Nathan Whatton, the mind behind Routero (https://routeroapp.com), a completely grassroots, free mobile app built specifically to serve the UK biking community.
Before he was a developer, Nathan spent over a decade working as a professional Hollywood stuntman, doubling for Antonio Banderas and surviving some brutal on-set injuries. Nathan shares how he went from leaving school with no grades to teaching himself how to code on his laptop after putting the kids to bed, all to build an intuitive app featuring "Surprise Me" routing, biker-centric cafe logs, and a unique gear-sharing marketplace.
They dive into the grit of self-made projects, the power of a stubborn mindset, the value of deep friendships, and answer a stellar batch of listener questions ranging from red vs. brown sauce to the classic TV shows of their generation.
Head over to https://routeroapp.com to download the free app and find your next riding community hotspot.
