The Phantom (1996) Review | Forgotten Comic Book Movie or Cult Classic? | Throwback Series

    07/03/2026 | 2h 5 mins.
Before the MCU, before the modern wave of DC Comics movies, and long before superhero films dominated the box office… there was The Phantom (1996).

In this episode of the SuperHero Homies Throwback Series, we revisit the cult comic book movie The Phantom starring Billy Zane and Treat Williams to see if this forgotten superhero film holds up today… or if it belongs deep in the jungle with the Skull Cave.

Our Throwback episodes celebrate older movies (usually 25+ years old) with humor, nostalgia, and a fun pop culture discussion. This time, a fan of the show suggested we review The Phantom, and it turned out to be an absolute blast.

Even though we don’t think this 90s superhero movie is technically good, it ended up being one of the funniest and most entertaining watches with friends we’ve had in a while.

    In this episode we discuss:

    • The full plot breakdown of The Phantom (1996)

    • The movie’s roots in the classic Phantom comic strip and comic books

    • Billy Zane’s performance as the legendary purple-suited hero

    • Treat Williams’ over-the-top villain energy

    • The action scenes, adventure tone, and jungle setting

    • The unintentionally hilarious dialogue

    • Why the cinematography and action choreography feel so dated

    • The strange charm that makes this movie oddly enjoyable

    • Our favorite ridiculous and memorable moments

Even with its awkward dialogue, lackluster plot, stiff action scenes, and questionable filmmaking choices, The Phantom somehow manages to deliver a weirdly charming comic book adventure that’s perfect for a group watch with friends.

But before we jump into this 90s superhero time capsule…

    Cold Open Topics Include:

    • Our thoughts on the new Lanterns TV series trailer

    • Our favorite moments from DC Comics’ Doomsday Clock storyline

    • The infamous Ace Ventura rhino prop being put up for sale

    • The recent bizarre Jim Carrey controversy circulating online

Ranking Disney’s Star Wars (Worst to Best) | Andor, Mandalorian, Sequel Trilogy & More!

    13/02/2026 | 2h 1 mins.
In this episode of SuperHero Homies!, we rank every live-action Star Wars movie and TV series released under Disney from worst to best. That means all 13 projects — including The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, Rogue One, Solo, The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew — enter the arena.

Yes, even Skeleton Crew gets its day in court.

Is Andor still the prestige king of Disney Star Wars? Did The Mandalorian redefine the franchise? Has time been kind to the Sequel Trilogy? Where does Ahsoka land? And does Skeleton Crew surprise us or drift into hyperspace obscurity? We debate, we defend, and we reshuffle the galaxy one ranking at a time.

Before we jump to hyperspace, our cold open dives into the latest rumors surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including possible appearances from Tombstone, Jean Grey, and Man-Spider. We also theorize about the X-Men’s potential role in Avengers: Doomsday and what incursions could mean for the MCU moving forward.

If you love Star Wars rankings, MCU theories, Marvel and DC discussions, comic book commentary, superhero movie reviews, and pop culture debates, this episode is built for you. Whether you’re loyal to the light side, flirting with the dark side, or just here for the chaos, we’ve got you covered.

Wonder Man MCU Review | A Fresh Take or Too Low Stakes? (Full Spoilers)

    06/02/2026 | 1h 48 mins.
The SuperHero Homies! Podcast returns with a packed episode featuring a full spoiler review of Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man TV series, plus a major conversation about the future of fantasy adaptations in Hollywood.

We kick things off with a cold open breaking down the groundbreaking deal between Brandon Sanderson and Apple, and what it could mean for the live action Cosmere universe. We discuss potential Mistborn movies, a Stormlight Archive TV series, fan casting ideas, Sanderson’s creative control over his IP, and why this partnership has fantasy and sci-fi fans excited.

For our main discussion, we dive deep into Wonder Man, Marvel’s latest Disney+ series. Instead of following a traditional superhero formula, Wonder Man leans into a character study and buddy comedy, focusing on tone, relationships, and self-discovery rather than massive world-ending stakes.

We discuss why many viewers seem to love the show, including one of the hosts, while also examining where it falls short. One of us thinks the series feels low stakes and meandering at times, while both of us agree that Wonder Man still represents a refreshing creative swing for the MCU.

If you enjoy MCU TV reviews, Marvel Disney+ discussions, comic book adaptations, superhero podcasts, and pop culture breakdowns, this episode is for you.
