Mirrors are the most ordinary objects in the world, and according to centuries of folklore, one of the most dangerous. The ancient Aztecs used polished obsidian to communicate with the dead. The Victorians covered every mirror in the house the moment someone died.

In the first century, Roman writer Pliny the Younger wrote a letter recounting a chilling tale of a haunted house in Athens, where the ghost of a chained, emaciated man terrified residents. This is believed to be one of the first documented haunted house stories in history, and over the centuries, thousands (both fiction and non-fiction) have been told.
