For centuries, humanity has been obsessed with one chilling question: what happens after we die?

In the search for answers, people have turned to tools said to bridge the gap between our world and the next - seances, automatic writing, and Ouija boards.

The Ouija board, marketed as an innocent game since the late 1800s, surged in popularity during periods of mass grief and uncertainty like World War I and the Spanish Flu pandemic, when desperate people longed to contact those they had lost. But opening a door to the unknown can come with a terrifying cost… because sometimes, whatever answers back may not be human at all.
