Episode 29 of the Redline Republic Podcast!
This week we finally announce the details for our first ever Redline Republic Cars & Coffee, taking place on August 30th at Toro United Football Club C15 AE98 near Navan, with money being raised for Nobber Cancer Support Group. We also talk about the first merch drop, a few ideas for prizes on the day and why there’ll be absolutely no messing at the event.
After that, we get into the usual chaos, Marketplace arguments, whether you’d rather own your dream car completely standard or have unlimited money to modify something average, why lower-powered cars with a properly specced interior are starting to make more sense, and the frightening thought of actually having to look after a €20,000 car.We also get into dealer servicing prices, buying newer cars privately vs from a dealership, cars we hated years ago but would happily own now, and somehow end up ranking generations of the Volkswagen Golf while both of us are nearly falling asleep.

Badger is back from Tenerife this week, and somehow a holiday story ends with four e-scooters doing 25km/h on a motorway. We catch up on what we’ve been at, Dan finally makes the jump from a Logitech to a MOZA R5, and somehow get sidetracked into toll booth disasters, aquaplaning on the motorway and some questionable public toilet stories.
Then we get into the actual car chat, are people far too obsessed with horsepower? We talk 300+ bhp PD130s, massively overpowered road cars, how much power you can realistically use in Ireland and why a slower car can sometimes be a lot more fun. We also give a small update on plans for our own Cars & Coffee and, as usual, end up going down a few completely unrelated rabbit holes along the way.

This week, we finally start rating your cars after getting far more submissions than we expected.
We go through everything from E11 Corollas and Nissan Bluebirds to S-chassis, Subarus and some properly unusual builds, while trying to decide what deserves a place near the top of our new rating system.
We also talk about fake Recaros, cheap wheels, why brakes are often ignored when people chase more power, the lost art of the €200 field car and whether buying an IS200 now makes more sense than spending serious money on an AE86.
There’s also some honest advice on apprenticeships, working in mechanics and whether turning your hobby into a job can ruin it.
