🎨 Jacques-Louis David is renowned for his grandiose paintings of Napoleon, as well as for being a leader of the neoclassical movement. Interestingly, his first choice was to bring back classical themes, such as Greek mythology. However, because of his involvement in the French Revolution, he started painting contemporary situations, such as “The Coronation of Napoleon”, which ironically made him one of the most avant-garde painters of his generation. This year, the Louvre Museum is celebrating the bicentennial of his death with a major exhibition.
