And it’s the last of the pure historical adventures, until this very day. The fourth story of season 4 also sees a very different portrayal, or series of portrayals, by Patrick Troughton. The Doctor is still very much an unknown quantity and is still acting under the watchful eyes of Ben and Polly, while one James Robert McCrimmon gets introduced to the crew.  The Highlanders takes place in a setting of 18th Century atrocities following the last battle of British soil, Culloden, while The Doctor seems to take a carefree and comedic approach to affairs.
