S16 Ep880: Broken Arrow (1996, Live in Los Angeles)

    18/08/2026 | 1h 50 mins.
Recorded Live at the Hollywood Improv in Los Angeles, CA, 22 February, 2026
“Travolta just chops him in the neck!” - Steve on Bob Gunton’s character’s demise
On this week’s Summer Live episode, we’re releasing our Broken Arrow show from earlier this year, recorded in our favorite room to play on tour, the world-famous Hollywood Improv!
We were there playing to a packed house to chat about this near-forgotten John Travolta/Christian Slater action film that contains more than its fair share of character actors! Is it sad that audiences probably remember this movie better than they remember another, superior, John Woo-in-America entry, Hard Target? How hilarious is the moment when that old timer gets taken out by the terrorists at his camp site? No shade to stuff like Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, but can we get Samantha Mathis in bigger movies like this again? Is there a better actor to play a cinematic weasel than Bob Gunton? And would this film have been better if Christian Slater’s character was in possession of a magic talisman? PLUS: Nickelodeon’s Guts but it’s also a Giallo film!
Broken Arrow stars John Travolta, Christian Slater, Samantha Mathis, Bob Gunton, Frank Whaley, Howie Long, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Delroy Lindo as Colonel Max Wilkins; directed by John Woo.

    11/08/2026 | 2h 11 mins.
Recorded Live at the Bell House in Brooklyn, NY, 6 December, 2025
“These domes are too cheap to colonize Mars!” - Steve
On this Summer Live episode, it’s our 15th Anniversary Show from the Bell House where we were in rare form chatting about the Arnold sci-fi classic, Total Recall!

How hilarious is Arnold as this vague construction guy? Was this movie the Ground Zero for that Arnold Soundboard craze? Why does the Recall office only have the single chair if they’re the latest craze in techno-tainment? Why did they let Arnold get the procedure while wearing jeans and a corduroy jacket? And should we be calling these guys mutants? PLUS: The finale of the season sixteen VHS Trailer Game!
Total Recall stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside, Rachel Ticotin, Marshall Bell, Mel Johnson Jr., Michael Champion, Roy Brocksmith, Dean Norris, Debbie Lee Carrington, Robert Costanzo, and Ronny Cox as Cohaagen; directed by Paul Verhoeven.

“I saw [this movie] at 11 years old, opening weekend” - Eric
On this edition of We ❤️ Movies, we’re chatting about one of the landscape-shifting indie films of the 1990’s, Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction!
How incredible is this soundtrack? Have Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta had better chemistry with any other actors? Did a Jersey City realtor actually give QT the idea for the foot fetish discussion? And Lord Almighty, this movie did not need that director’s cameo! PLUS: What were they thinking with that Seinfeld/Pulp Fiction promo?
Pulp Fiction stars Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer, Bruce Willis, Christopher Walken, Harvey Keitel, Phil LaMarr, Frank Whaley, Paul Calderon, Rosanna Arquette, Eric Stoltz, Steve Buscemi, Kathy Griffin, Peter Greene, Alexis Arquette, Julia Sweeney, and Ving Rhames Marsellus Wallace; directed by Quentin Tarantino.

S16 Ep877: King Ralph (1991, Live in Oxford)

    04/08/2026 | 1h 32 mins.
Recorded Live in Oxford, England, 20 July, 2025

“He gets the crown put on his head, the Hobbits are there, it’s an amazing time” - Eric on Ralph’s Coronation
On our first Summer Live episode of the season, we’re releasing our outrageous show from closing night of last year’s residency at the Oxford Comedy Festival!
This show was an incredible end to a super-fun run of six shows we had at the festival and wowza, King Ralph is certainly something, isn’t it? Is this moment-of-death photograph that starts the film technically a snuff pic? Aren’t they asking way too much of this bumbling buffoon for only being King a couple weeks? How much cash did Burger King sink into this cinematic misadventure? And is there a single scene here with a sober Peter O’Toole? PLUS: One of King Ralph’s first decrees: invade Jug Nation!
King Ralph stars John Goodman, John Hurt, Camille Coduri, Richard Griffiths, Leslie Phillips, James Villiers, Joely Richardson, Julian Glover, Rudolph Walker, and Peter O’Toole as Sir Cedric Willingham; directed by David S. Ward.

About We Hate Movies
Since 2010, the We Hate Movies podcast has been loudly celebrating and tearing apart movies from across the spectrum: from forgotten '80s actioners and insane romantic comedies of the '90s, to the early CGI blockbusters of the aughts and the hyper-nostalgic franchises of the 2010s and today. Every week, comedians Andrew Jupin, Stephen Sajdak, Eric Szyszka, and Chris Cabin pick a movie from the near-past to discuss and joke around about in all its positive and negative glory.
