At Caesarea Philippi in Matthew 16, Peter says, "You are the Christ." Neville Goldman calls it a place of many gods, and he reads Peter's words as Messiah, the only One. You will not know who you are until you know who God is, and from that revelation he draws the rock, the church and the keys of the kingdom. A kingdom, he argues, is not a church: it takes in schools, roads, business and medical care. Then he goes to Apollos, who in his telling knew the Scriptures up till John, and to John 11, where he hears Jesus fighting for one thing. Jesus never aligns Himself with you. You have to align with Him. Is He just the Saviour to you, or the Messiah?

If you don't know your true identity, you will never know your true authority, and you will always be pushing to be accepted. Neville Goldman takes that into Matthew 16, where Peter says, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God," and the revelation comes from the Father, not from flesh and blood. From there he follows the sonships he finds in the passage: Son of Man, Son of God and, in the name Bar-Jonah, son of the Holy Ghost. Psalm 8:4 and Genesis 5:2 lead him to Adam, the one name God gave male and female, and he reads that name as aleph for God and dam for blood, the DNA of sonship. You were born blessed, he says. Stop carrying what Jesus has taken. Receive Him, not accept Him.
