  • HoM: Doctor Who Podcast - "Genesis of the Daleks" Review & More
Series 1, Episode 8 - "Do I have the right?" Yes, you have the right to enjoy our last Who review for a while. This week on Hit or Miss: Doctor Who, we’re wrapping up our first batch of Dalek deep dives with a true sci-fi titan: Genesis of the Daleks! D.K. takes the wheel as host, but don’t panic—Mike’s still riding shotgun with his trusty sack of behind-the-scenes trivia. Joining them is first-time guest but long-time Whovian Phil Newman, who’s ready to help us tackle the best Genesis since Phil Collins. Before we get to Davros and his megalomaniacal skincare routine, D.K. puts Phil through a pre-show initiation to find out favourite Dalek stories, top-tier Doctors, and other Whoniverse highlights. D.K has also prepared a Hit or Miss segment featuring a nearly-but-not-quite companion, a less-beloved Dalek tale, and a Jodie Whittaker story that split the fanbase like Skaro on a bad day. Then it’s time for the big questions: morality, manipulation, Time Lord meddling, Davros' debut, Nazi parallels, ethical dilemmas, unforgettable moments, and yes… that giant clam. Is this the origin story to end all origin stories? Or does it just raise more uncomfortable questions about genetic experimentation and fashion goggles? We're on a little Doctor Who break after this one, so set coordinates, grab your time ring, and join us for one last hurrah (for now). We'll be back before you can say “Kaled mutations in a polycarbide shell!”. Should you stay tuned? Yes, you SHOULD do it! • SSP Cinema Classics 15 - Daleks' Invasion Earth - 2150AD
Cinema Classics Number 15 - "We'll have to bypass Watford. The place is full of Daleks." This week, it's exterminate! meets cinematechnique as Silver Screen Cinema Classics teams up with sister show Hit or Miss: Doctor Who for a one-time-only crossover that's bigger, louder, and more British than ever before! Join Mike, DK, and returning guest Will Templar as they journey back in time for the Technicolor mayhem of Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D., the second (and final) big-screen adventure featuring Peter Cushing’s eccentric, grandfatherly Dr. Who. But don't expect much timey-wimey tinkering — the team’s casting a cinematic eye over this lavish (by BBC standards) adaptation of the classic TV serial, and they're not pulling any punches. From the eye-popping return of the colourful, chunky, and shoutier-than-ever movie Daleks to the dystopian breakfast endorsement of Sugar Puffs, this sequel doesn’t skimp on spectacle — or shameless product placement. There’s plenty to dissect in how the film diverges from its small-screen source material, with tighter pacing, broader humour, and explosions dialled up to eleven. The gang dives into the oddly divergent tones starting with the curious case of Tom, the comic-relief copper whose Roboman clown act proves divisive to say the least. Meanwhile, genre stalwart Philip Madoc makes a memorably grim exit, gunned down by Daleks in one of the film’s starkest and most cinematically striking sequences. All the while, poor Peter Cushing finds himself strangely sidelined, with his kindly human Doctor taking something of a backseat in a story that feels more ensemble than star vehicle. Naturally, comparisons to the first Cushing film are inevitable — and thoroughly explored. Is this camp classic a cinematic regeneration worth remembering, or did the Daleks’ big-screen dreams fall into the core of the Earth? Grab your anti-Dalek bombs, stock up from the Roboman food dispenser, and join us as we head to a 2150 that looks curiously like 1966. • HoM: Doctor Who Podcast - "Victory of the Daleks" Review & More
Series 1, Episode 6 - "If he did find Dorabella she's in for one heck of a shock..." Brace yourselves, Earthlings—it’s another Dalek-themed detour in our Whoniversal road trip! This week on Hit or Miss: Doctor Who, D.K. is off on a secret mission (possibly involving Scottish robots and Churchill), but fear not! Captain Mike is back in the host’s chair and he's brought backup. Making his triumphant return is friend of the show and Who Gameshow overlord Will Templar, who once again rolls the dice (metaphorically—we didn’t bring Monopoly Daleks). And joining the podcast for the very first time, all the way from their award-worthy appearances on Silver Screen Podcast, it’s the ultimate entertainment power couple—Michael Whaley and Rune! They might be new to Hit or Miss, but they’ve got enough charisma to fill a Dalek mothership. We kick things off with the usual Whovian origin stories—how our guests fell into the time vortex of fandom—and then hop into a Nu-Who-heavy Hit or Miss segment featuring an impossible girl, a twisty Dalek plot or two and one seriously weird hybrid creature. Then it’s full steam ahead into our main review: the often-divisive Eleventh Doctor tale, "Victory of the Daleks." Is it a bold reimagining or a tea-fuelled travesty? Are those WWII Daleks a charming callback or cheesy clunkers? And do the New Paradigm Daleks really look like intergalactic pepper pots crossed with Power Rangers? All that and more in this rollicking new episode. Spoilers and jammy dodgers guaranteed. • HoM: Doctor Who Podcast - "Day of the Daleks" Review & More
Series 1, Episode 5 - "We've all gone a little bit carried away on gorgonzola and wine." Hit or Miss: Doctor Who is back in your timeline. This time, Mike and D.K. are once again joined by the brilliant Cliff Chapman for another trip through time and space — and the usual chaotic mix of Hit or Miss debates, friendly banter, and full-on nerd analysis. Our latest adventure? The Jon Pertwee classic Day of the Daleks! We dive deep into what makes this UNIT-era tale tick - Expect deep thoughts about Dalek strategy (or lack thereof), UNIT’s impeccable mustaches, and whether Jon Pertwee could have defeated the entire invasion with just a cape flourish and a glass of vintage wine. D.K. also gives us his exclusive first-time review of the Special Edition... despite owning it for years without realizing. (We blame either DVD overload or a casual disregard for linear time. It's very on-brand.) We'll tackle the infamous flaws that led to this much-needed new version (explosions! better Dalek voices! slightly less... slow action?) Expect chat about Pertwee being effortlessly cool, the might of UNIT (and their suspiciously poor aim), and how this story laid the groundwork for everything from Days of Future Past to The Terminator. Plus: Why the Controller might just be the real MVP, and whether Ogrons are the best henchmen ever... or just confused gorillas. All this and plenty more — because if there's one thing we know, it's that changing the past never goes wrong... right?
