(#132) You Make Sense: Self-Compassion, Emotional Healing & Understanding Your Patterns
19/08/2026 | 13 mins.Have you ever felt anxious, angry, sad, overwhelmed, or triggered and immediately wondered, “Why am I like this?” or “Does this even make sense?”
In this episode, Rae explores what happens when we judge ourselves for the emotions and patterns we're already experiencing and how shifting from self-judgment to self-compassion can create more safety, curiosity, and understanding within ourselves.
You’ll learn why patterns like people pleasing, perfectionism, overworking, hyper-independence, and anxiety may have originally developed as intelligent ways to create safety, connection, love, approval, or a sense of control. Even when these patterns are no longer serving you, understanding why they're there can help you approach healing from a place of compassion rather than believing something is wrong with you.
In this episode, you'll explore:
Why judging yourself for a difficult emotion can create a second layer of pain or shame
How emotional conditioning can influence which feelings you consider “good” or “bad”
Why people pleasing, perfectionism, anxiety, overworking, and hyper-independence can develop as protective patterns
How somatic exploration can help you feel seen, heard, and safe within your emotional experience
Reflection prompts to help you understand the parts of yourself you may be judging
Rather than trying to fix, suppress, or judge what you're feeling, this episode is an invitation to slow down and ask: What if the way I’m feeling actually makes sense?
Through somatic healing, nervous system awareness, self-compassion, and curiosity, you can begin understanding your patterns on a deeper level and create a safer relationship with yourself, even in the moments that feel uncomfortable.

Somatic Healing for Anxiety & Nervous System Regulation
05/08/2026 | 17 mins. What is the mind-body connection, and why is strengthening it such an important part of somatic healing and nervous system regulation?
In this episode, Rae explores how your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and nervous system are constantly communicating with one another and why working with only the mind or only the body can sometimes leave you feeling stuck.
Using anxiety as an example, you’ll learn why you can’t always “think your way out” of an emotion and why exercise, distraction, or mindset work alone may not fully resolve what you're experiencing. Instead, somatic healing invites us to become curious about the whole experience: what we're thinking, what we're feeling in the body, how the nervous system is responding, and what we may need to feel safe.
In this episode, you'll learn:
What the mind-body connection actually means
How your thoughts influence your body, and your body influences your thoughts
Why anxiety can show up as overthinking, rumination, muscle tension, a racing heart, or an upset stomach
How somatic healing can help you recognize patterns of protection and survival
Why nervous system safety is foundational to emotional healing
Two simple practices you can use to begin strengthening your mind-body connection today
You’ll also walk away with practical ways to slow down, reconnect with your body, and begin communicating safety to your nervous system through movement, creativity, supportive relationships, somatic practices, and intentional moments of presence.
If you struggle with anxiety, overthinking, emotional overwhelm, nervous system dysregulation, or feeling disconnected from your body, this episode offers a compassionate introduction to creating a safer, stronger relationship between your mind and body.
