The incident became one of the most famous unsolved cases in Italian and Vatican history, with implications and suspicions involving and calling into question the Vatican State itself, the Italian state, international terrorism, the secret services of several states, the Banda della Magliana, a possible serial killer, the responsibility of some of the girl's acquaintances, as well as an internal Vatican plot to cover up an alleged pedophilia-related sex scandal.
