In this episode, Dani Foffa talks to world-leading NDE expert Dr. Pim van Lommel who explores how NDEs lead to lasting changes—loss of fear of death, belief in a personal afterlife, heightened intuition, and a deep sense of unity, love, and compassion—raising fundamental questions about consciousness beyond the brain. 

Pim worked as a cardiologist at Rijnstate Hospital for 26 years and published several articles on cardiology. He then started his research on near-death experiences (NDEs) in survivors of cardiac arrest in 1986, and he has authored over 20 articles, one book under the title Consciousness Beyond Life, and numerous book chapters on NDEs. He was a co-founder of the Dutch IANDS in 1988. In 2001, his prospective NDE study (the largest in the world) was published in the medical journal The Lancet. In 2005, he was awarded the Dr. Bruce Greyson Research Award by the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS). In 2020, Spiritual Awakenings International (SAI) honored him as a Circle of Honor honoree for his groundbreaking work on near-death experiences. In 2021, the Bigelow Institute for Consciousness Studies (BICS) launched an international essay contest for the best scientific evidence of a possible afterlife. With his essay entitled The Continuity of Consciousness, Dr. van Lommel won second prize. In 2022, he became an Honorary Member of the Scientific and Medical Network (SMN), and in 2024 he became an IANDS Advisory Board Member. His book was first published in Germany in 2009 and later released in English by HarperCollins in 2010 Consciousness Beyond Life: The Science of the Near-Death Experience. That same year, the book received the 2010 Book Award from the Scientific and Medical Network.
