Sex Disparities in CV Trials; Left Stellate Ganglion Blocks & CABG; Bifurcation Lesions; Managing Resistant Hypertension
14/10/2026 | 8 mins.In this week's View, Dr. Eagle looks at continued sex disparities in CV clinical trials. He then examines how preemptive left stellate ganglion block (SGB) is associated with a reduced incidence of postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in patients undergoing CABG. He follows that with a look at bifurcation lesions as analyzed in the OCTOBER Trial. Finally, Dr. Eagle offers a brief vignette on resistant hypertension and how to manage it.ACC/AHA Joint Perioperative Guidelines; Atenolol and MACE Risk; Yoga and VPCs; DECIPHER and CMR
07/10/2026 | 8 mins.In this week's View, Dr. Eagle looks at how the most recent perioperative guideline published in 2024 remains valid and current. He then examines how, in the treatment of patients without recorded heart failure (HF), starting atenolol after a myocardial infarction (MI) was associated with a lower two-year risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), but not all-cause mortality. He follows that with a look at patients with frequent ventricular premature complexes (VPCs) and how a structured yoga program compared with standard care reduced VPCs as well as improved quality of life (QOL) and psychological burden. Finally, Dr. Eagle discusses the DECIPHER HFpEF Study on cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) tissue mapping and its capture of active relaxation impairment (σ) and passive stiffness (β) in invasively characterized heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

30/09/2026 | 8 mins.In this week's View, Dr. Eagle looks at how higher whole-grain intake was associated with improvements in multiple cardiometabolic risk factors in a meta-analysis of randomized trials. He then examines how concomitant use of tafamidis or heart failure (HF) therapies did not modify the treatment benefit of vutrisiran on all-cause mortality and recurrent cardiovascular events, according to a HELIOS-B analysis, and follows that with a look in the case of patients with severe asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis, adding revascularization with either carotid artery stenting (CAS) or carotid endarterectomy (CEA) to intensive medical management (IMM) did not improve cognition compared with IMM alone, according to results from the CREST-2 randomized trials. Finally, Dr. Eagle explores how women in the CENTURY trial had higher coronary blood flow (CBF) than men while having a comparable burden of cardiovascular risk factors, similar treatment response and half the coronary events, offering a potential physiological explanation for the delayed clinical manifestation of coronary artery disease (CAD) in women.
Subscribe to Eagle's Eye ViewFirst Medical Contact, CV Toxicity and Antibody-Drug Conjugates, Extreme Heat & Blood Pressure, FinACAF & Lower Risk of ischemic Stroke
23/09/2026 | 10 mins.In this week's View, Dr. Eagle looks at a recent JACC: Advances Viewpoint that examines the challenges associated with implementing revisions to the definition of first medical contact (FMC) introduced in the 2025 ACC/AHA ACS Guideline and its implications for NCDR data collection. He then examines a cardiooncology primer on CV toxicity of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) in breast cancer and follows that with a look at extreme heat and blood press (BP) changes, especially among the elderly. Finally, Dr. Eagle explores the results of the FinACAF study that indicates patients with atrial flutter only (AFL-only) had a 40% lower risk of ischemic stroke than those with atrial fibrillation only (AFib-only).
Subscribe to Eagle's Eye ViewCV Subspecialty Training; a Novel Left Atrium Staging Framework; the (IL)-6 Inflammatory Biomarker, HF Risk & Diabetes
16/09/2026 | 10 mins.In this week's View, Dr. Eagle looks at a recent article on proposed changes to the current cardiovascular (CV) subspecialty training path. He then examines an article on a novel left atrium (LA) staging framework that stratifies new-onset atrial fibrillation risk in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Finally, Dr. Eagle explores the results of a Look AHEAD ancillary study on the inflammatory biomarker interleukin (IL)-6 that identified residual inflammatory risk of incident heart failure (HF) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and overweight/obesity.
