Julia Kim | Inner Well-Being, Social Change, and Gross National Happiness

    09/06/2026 | 51 mins.
Julia shares the origins of Gross National Happiness (GNH) in Bhutan and how its origins in the 1970’s has impacted the development of Bhutan and shaped its policies and culture. By putting the happiness and well-being of all people and all life at the center of development and growth, there are noticeable differences in the way Bhutanese citizens care for each other, how their children speak of their futures, and how citizens hold their government accountable.
The inclusion of all life in the measure of happiness extends to policies that curb emissions, protect forests, and limit the impacts of tourism. Julia also discusses the role of music in the development of culture and nurturing our well-being, relating improvisation to the ways in which we should approach envisioning the future.

She delved into the idea of awareness and inner well-being and shares four dimensions of well-being Awareness, Connection, Insight and Purpose. She concludes by sharing a message of hope and resilience as humanity works towards an ecocivilization, recognizing that change is difficult and takes time but requires trust that change may be occurring in ways we cannot easily measure.

Harald Lesch | Climate Science and how to communicate about it

    04/11/2025 | 54 mins.
In this podcast episode, we speak with Harald Lesch. He begins by exploring what makes Earth so special in the cosmic context and what this means for how we relate to our planet. He then discusses the responsibility of the wealthiest to support those less privileged, especially considering the greater accountability that industrialized nations bear in addressing climate challenges.
Lesch invites us to engage in an evolution toward a more planetary feeling and perspective. He reflects on the tension between progress and regression particularly in light of ongoing investments in fossil fuels, even as renewable energy continues to grow rapidly. He offers concrete examples from regions in Germany and California to illustrate these dynamics.
Throughout the conversation, he emphasizes how both the economy and energy systems are powerful forces shaping decision-making. He also highlights the importance of storytelling, not only to communicate the impacts of climate change, such as its effects on human health, but also to share successful, collaborative solutions. Finally, he advocates for an interdisciplinary approach to education as a key to creating meaningful change.
