  • Is price replacing value in markets? A financial nihilist's take
In this episode of Stocks In Translation, Yahoo Finance markets and data editor Jared Blikre and producer Sydnee Fried welcome Demetri Kofinas, the host of Hidden Forces podcast, for a deep dive into the concept of financial nihilism. Coined by Kofinas in 2019, the term "financial nihilism" refers to the belief that financial planning, investing, or wealth building is meaningless or futile. Kofinas’ philosophy of financial nihilism arises from the growing disconnect between price and value. “Markets are about finding the intersection between those two points and trying to buy below, at a price below value,” Kofinas. “Eventually the thing appreciates in line with expectations or underlying value.” Twice a week, Stocks In Translation cuts through the market mayhem, noisy numbers and hyperbole to give you the information you need to make the right trade for your portfolio. • ETF inflows set records following post-election euphoria
The market has surged since the conclusion of the 2024 Presidential election, with ETFs experiencing a significant swell in investments. In this episode of Stocks In Translation, Todd Sohn, an ETF strategist at Strategas Asset Management, joins Yahoo Finance markets and data editor Jared Blikre and producer Sydnee Fried to discuss ETFs, market capitalization, and risk flows. “We have seen a massive amount of money go into equity ETFs, roughly 240 billion or so over the last three months. That is the highest on record,” said Sohn. “Part of this is the adoption of ETFs, and part of it is also everyone's just jumping into the pool. They make it easy. And so I always look at ETFs as this great lens into investor psychology.” Twice a week, Stocks In Translation cuts through the market mayhem, noisy numbers and hyperbole to give you the information you need to make the right trade for your portfolio. • Why Trump's fiscal policy doesn’t add up
In this episode of Stocks In Translation, Yahoo Finance markets and data editor Jared Blikre and producer Sydnee Fried welcome Joe Brusuelas, RSM chief economist, to the vodcast to discuss regime change and the post-pandemic economy. In finance, a regime change refers to a “major shift in economic conditions such as interest rates, inflation or growth, often triggered by policy changes or structural economic shifts,” said Blikre. As Donald Trump transitions back into the White House for his second term, Brusuelas said the president-elect’s administration will focus on narrowing the deficit. However, there are contradictions associated with Trump’s approach to economic populism. Trump aims to lower taxes and increase government spending, which leads to higher deficits and debt.  “The issue is that Trump and his policymakers will want to narrow the trade deficit. They want to narrow the current account deficit,” Brusuelas said. “But you can't do that when you get a stronger dollar because lower taxes mean more disposable income, and you attract more imports.” Twice a week, Stocks In Translation cuts through the market mayhem, noisy numbers and hyperbole to give you the information you need to make the right trade for your portfolio. • How to use market sentiment to your advantage
The market has been on a wild ride since the election. Bitcoin has reached an all-time high, and despite President Trump’s announcement of potential tariff increases, the market continues its upward trajectory. eToro U.S. investment analyst Bret Kenwell joins Stocks in Translation, hosted by Yahoo Finance’s markets and data editor Jared Blikre, and producer Sydnee Fried, to discuss market sentiment—our word of the day—and to remind us that “this whole year has been off a wild ride.” “In Q1, we had, you know, worries of reflation… In the summer, we had a lot of volatility with… the Japanese carry trade unwinding,” Kenwell continues. “With the change in presidential, um, candidates, we had a lot of bumpiness. We had worries about the jobs market, and then we had to get through the election and seasonality issues… But it’s been a great year.” Twice a week, Stocks In Translation cuts through the market mayhem, noisy numbers and hyperbole to give you the information you need to make the right trade for your portfolio.
