SLP 592: Navigating the Love and Loss of a Parent with Sue Anderson-Stevens

    29/06/2026 | 1h 29 mins.
In this heartfelt episode, Kim sits down with Sue Anderson-Stevens, author of Love and Loss of a Parent, to explore her deeply personal journey through grief, resilience, and healing. Sue reflects on her upbringing on the Central Coast of New South Wales, where her parents taught her the value of simplicity, gratitude, and finding joy even during difficult times. She shares how these lessons shaped her career as a project manager and leader, where her focus has always been on helping others feel seen, heard, and valued. Sue opens up about the profound experience of losing both of her parents within just 116 days and the emotional impact of caring for them through their final years.

The conversation delves into the ways Sue navigated loss, including her passion for ultramarathon running and completing a challenging 100-kilometre race as part of her healing journey. Through stories of endurance, the Camino de Santiago, meaningful signs from her parents, and the support of family and friends, Sue reveals how grief can evolve into growth and transformation. Drawing from the framework outlined in her book Grief, Healing, Connection, and Transformation, Sue offers compassionate insights for anyone experiencing loss. Sue’s powerful message reminds listeners to honour their own grieving process, embrace self-love, and remember that “you have to feel it to heal it.”

    About Sue:
Sue Anderson-Stevens is a Master Practitioner of NLP and Time Line Therapy®, a certified Transformational and Grief Coach, and a passionate advocate for helping others
navigate life’s most challenging moments with courage and compassion.

After losing both of her parents within months of each other, Sue felt called to transform her personal journey of grief into something meaningful–supporting others to move from grief toward healing, connection, and transformation through her book, Love and Loss of a Parent.

With over 35 years of experience in leadership and project management, Sue brings a unique blend of structure and empathy to her work. An avid runner and ultramarathon
finisher, she believes deeply in the power of movement, mindset, and connection to support healing.

Sue lives on the Sunshine Coast, Australia, with her partner and is a proud mum to twin daughters. She is now building a supportive community so that no one has to walk through
    loss alone.

Her definition of Self Love is: If I look in the context to loss, it would be to give yourself permission to grieve without judgement and allowing yourself to move forward when you are ready, and not when the world expects you to.

    Her favourite quote is:
I would rather be the oldest person in the gym than the youngest person in the nursing home.

You have to feel it, to heal it.

    Quotes:
Life was always full of love and laughter.
Not a day goes by that I don’t acknowledge that I had a very privileged childhood growing up.
They always made our childhood be the best they could in the circumstances that they had.
Everybody will bring something unique to the team, and if you are the leader, it is your job to find what that is.
I think making people feel heard and seen, is something that I really focussed in on.
The longer runs, I love because you just get to just tune in. It is like a meditation.
It is just being able to be lost in thought, in beautiful nature.
I want to do something that people go is hard. I want to do something not everyone can do. I want to do that thing that is outside the box.
One thing I love about the running community is a very supportive community, regardless of your age, shape, or condition. You are always welcomed in.
The best place to start, if you really don’t know, is park runs.
There was constant exhaustion and trying to manage lots of different things that I had going on at once.
I felt like I was constantly living in a survival mode.
They were the sort of people that didn’t ever want to be a burden.
I just knew that when I walked in the door at Mum and Dad’s, and when I walked in the door at my home, I had to be a different person to the person that was being the carer, the juggler of everything.
When I knew that they had given up the fight, then I knew it was time to prepare.
I was grieving the loss of my parents, even though they were still alive, and I just never thought that that was a thing.
I took the redundancy as a sign that was now my new job. It was to look after Mum and Dad.
I knew I would have my time. My focus was 100% on the job I had at hand.
The world was moving on so quick and my grief wasn’t.
Everyone’s hard is something different. Mine happened to be long distance ultra running.
If you can find your hard, something that you know is out of your comfort zone and it is going to take effort for you to do, then that is your hard.
If I could share my story, that could help other people, then it would be worth me writing that book, even if it just helps a couple of people.
I referred to myself as an accidental author.
I felt that it is my story, in my words. I wanted it to sound very much like a conversation. I wanted it to sound so personal.
This is about the community that I want to build and supporting people.
I really wanted to normalise the conversation about grief.
Grief is a place that you do need to visit, but it is not a place you want to stay.
The next version of you is waiting.

SLP 591: Self Love Quicky - Power of Presence

    24/06/2026 | 6 mins.
In this Self Love Podcast Quicky Kim explores the transformative power of being fully present in the moment and how nature can be one of our greatest teachers. Through simple observations of birds, resting dogs, and the rhythm of ocean waves, she shares how the natural world reminds us to stop overthinking, release comparison, and simply be. Kim explains that presence is a profound act of self-love, and that healing often comes not from doing more, but from softening, listening, and connecting with what is happening right now. She encourages us to cultivate presence through practices such as standing barefoot on the earth, watching nature, and taking conscious breaths. This uplifting episode is a reminder of your innate power and an invitation to embrace the beauty and wisdom available in the present moment.

    Quotes:
It is about being here, right now. This breath, this moment.
The most powerful way is to spend time in nature.
Animals, they don’t overthink who they are. Trees don’t compare themselves to the forest beside them, and the sun never wonders if it is enough.
You do not have to constantly prove your worth. Presence is self love.
Life was never meant to be lived in permanent urgency, and nature has the most powerful ability to bring us back home to ourselves.
Healing is not always found in the doing more.
It is found in the softening, in the listening, the pausing, the allowing.
Give yourself permission to be fully where you are.
The more present we become, the more love you feel.
Life is full of highs and lows.
Grace synergy blend reminds me to come home to me.

SLP 590: The Wisdom of Horses: Healing, Self Love & Sovereignty with Noni Boon

    22/06/2026 | 1h 25 mins.
In this inspiring episode of the Self Love Podcast, Kim sits down with holistic counsellor, horse trainer, and equine assisted therapist Noni Boon to explore the powerful connection between horses, self-love, and personal transformation. Noni shares her journey of reconnecting with horses as an adult and how her mare, Lacey, became a profound teacher of emotional healing, healthy boundaries, self-trust, and sovereignty. Together, they delve into archetypal psychology, the wisdom of living in the present moment, and how horses can help us reconnect with our instincts, emotions, and authentic selves.

Noni also discusses her definition of self-love as loyalty to oneself, sharing her unique practice of creating personal vows through a symbolic act of “marrying yourself.” The conversation touches on healing, forgiveness and the deep lessons horses offer in personal growth. This is a rich and thought provoking conversation for anyone seeking a deeper connection with themselves and the world around them

    About Noni
Noni Boon is a Holistic Counsellor, writer, speaker, podcaster, and horsewoman whose work helps women reconnect with their instincts, establish healthy boundaries, and live with greater sovereignty.

Drawing on holistic counselling, archetypal psychology, nervous system awareness, and the wisdom of horses, Noni offers a grounded and compassionate approach to personal transformation. Her work supports women in moving beyond self-doubt, over-responsibility, and inherited patterns so they can become the woman they were born to become.

Noni is the author of Holifest, a self-published book that explores manifestation through the integration of mind, body, and soul. She is also the creator of The Archetypal Mare, a body of work inspired by her relationship with her mare, Lacey, and the qualities horses embody so naturally: presence, instinct, clear boundaries, and relational integrity.

As host of the podcast Speak Your Truth with Noni Boon, she has shared insights on emotional healing, confidence, grief, relationships, and conscious living. Her writing has appeared in Nature & Health magazine, and she has facilitated women’s groups, workshops, and corporate programs focused on emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, and self-leadership.

In addition to her counselling and writing, Noni is an accomplished horsewoman and an acknowledged racehorse retrainer with Queensland Racing. Her lifelong work with horses has become a central influence in her understanding of trust, embodiment, and authentic leadership.

Noni lives on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, where she writes, speaks, mentors, and offers equine-assisted sessions that help women return to the wisdom already living within them

Her definition of Self Love is: Self love is loyalty to yourself. It is honouring your boundaries, listening to your instincts, trusting your intuition, and being sovereign, being self governed, self led, not seeking approval from others, and certainly not asking permission to live your life.

Her favourite quote is initiated by Lacey. What is meant for you does not require pursuit. It moves towards you when you stop moving away from yourself.

    Quotes:
I realised that I was a complete mess, had addictions I didn’t even know I had, I had so much work to do on myself.
That was the hardest journey, lifting the carpet and really shaking out from under the carpet, everything that was in my family.
If I had the chance to do it again, I would do it so differently.
There is no perfect time to become a mum. You get the child that chooses you, and you do the best you can, and that is as good as it gets.
There is no right or wrong way. There is no textbook on it. You go in with an open heart.
Lacey, has been my greatest teacher and guide to date.
I decided on that day that I was going to marry myself.
I was going to make a conscious effort to fall more deeply in love with myself because that is what was missing.
    I will never abandon you.
    I will always choose myself.
I truly believe that you can’t marry another person and fully love another person until you marry yourself and make that vow to yourself and choose yourself.
Becoming a counsellor is all about doing the work on yourself first so that you become a clear vessel.
You want to integrate every aspect and every part of yourself, but do it consciously, so that it is used in a powerful, meaningful way, rather than in a harmful, destructive way.
I only feel now that I am coming into really being the person that I was born to become.
Boundaries are an act of self love, boundaries teach other people how to respond to us, how to treat us in life.
The most amazing thing about horses is that they don’t apologise for their boundaries, and they don’t have to tell the other horses where their boundaries are. They embody their boundary.
Horses only trust people who are congruent and people who are present, and people who are honest and real.
She helps me to access parts of myself that I haven’t been able to access in the past.
Sovereignty is self governance, self leadership.
What we can learn from horses is that we can just let it go. And we can just be in the present moment.
Self reflection is the hardest work, because you have to be able to tolerate the uncomfortable feelings that come about through taking responsibility.
I don’t believe that anybody needs an expert in their lives to tell them what to do. I believe that everybody has that deep knowing called intuition.
Intuition is the deep knowing that is connected with our heart and with our soul.
The adult self is the sovereign woman. The instinctive feminine, the wisdom, the woman that we are striving to become.
When the 3 archetypes all align, then we become whole and complete, our nervous system relaxes.
It is not intellectual. Words are used sometimes, but it is a felt experience
They are not mistakes, they are learnings.
All we have is the present moment, and just a whole lot of gratitude.

    Quotes:
There is something sacred about sitting down with words that were felt, crafted and lived by another human being.
Reading is not just consumption, I feel it is about connection.
When you open a book, I feel like you just step into someone else’s world.
It wakes a part of our imagination and even our hearts can soften.
    A great book carries energy.
It reminds you of the magic of storytelling.
There is that wonderful inspirational feeling of reading, the kind that lifts you, grounds you, and reminds you of who you are and who you are becoming.
Just a few pages a day can shift your mindset, reset your energy, and even reconnect you to your own beautiful purpose.
I think reading is a daily ritual of self love.
We don’t just read books. I think we experience them.
It is like having a wise friend, a storyteller, or a mentor right there with you.
In a world of fast answers, I think reading reminds us to take a breathe, be present and slow down.
There is still something magical about holding a book in your hands.
Take the time just for you. That is the ultimate act of self love.

SLP 588: Within the Space of a Second with Elise Helliwell

    15/06/2026 | 1h 2 mins.
In this heartfelt and inspiring episode of the Self Love Podcast, Kim speaks with radiographer and author Elise Helliwell who shares her journey from science and motherhood into the world of fiction writing. Elise opens up about how the isolation of COVID lockdowns and her experience with postnatal depression became the catalyst for writing her debut time travel romance novel, Within the Space of a Second.

The conversation explores creativity, imagination, and the healing power of storytelling, as Elise discusses her writing process, character development, and the craft books that helped shape her work. She also gives us a glimpse into the next instalment of her trilogy and shares her dream of one day seeing the series adapted for film.

Filled with insight, warmth, and encouragement, this episode is a reminder to listen to your creative whispers, make space for what lights you up, and trust that it is never too late to begin.

    About Elise
Elise Helliwell resides on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, with her husband and two cheeky girls. An avid romance reader, Elise writes contemporary and sci-fi/fantasy romance, juggling themes of love, anticipation and emotional angst. Part time radiographer and full time hopeless romantic, Elise’s writing combines her love of science and the romance genre to produce suspenseful, swoon-worthy love stories that will keep readers falling until the very last page.

Elis’s debut, Within the Space of a Second is a slow-burn, swoon-worthy love story about two people separated by time and the dangerous secrets that threaten to tear them apart. A debut time travel romance for fans of The Seven Year Slip, Divine Rivals and A Discovery of Witches. Out now in paperback, audiobook and electronic formats.

Her definition of Self Love is: My definition of self love is giving myself the time and space to be creative

Her favourite quote is: If you don’t come out of this quarantine with either a new skill, starting what you have been putting off, like a new business, or more knowledge, you never lacked the time you lacked the discipline

    Quotes:
I would describe myself as bubbly, positive and not afraid of a challenge.
I never thought that I would write a book.
I just couldn’t find the book that I wanted to read. So I thought, I will just write it.
There was this fear that people would say, you know, she is not a writer, she is a science girl, she is a radiographer.
    I believed in the story.
I knew that even though I wasn’t the best writer in the world, I knew that I could learn and I was determined to.
I believe that anyone who wants to write, they should, because the only way that you get better is by continuing to practice that skill.
Writing was my escape from all the things going on in life that I was struggling with.
Writing was the thing that saved me.
I think letting your imagination run wild is a beautiful thing.
There is this thing that I love to do, that I never even knew I could do.
It isn’t art, but it’s an art that can be taught and can be learned, which is what I love.
I think since the age of time, we have always been storytellers.
It is just having the courage to listen to that whisper and begin writing if you want to.
If you have those little whispers and you push them aside, it is a real missed opportunity because you never know where it might lead and how it might help you in the future.
Writing is my mental health time.
You can’t edit a blank page.
Creativity comes in all forms. So don’t be afraid to find yours and embrace it and listen to that little whisper.
