- What does it take to build one of the world's most recognisable celebrity brands? In this episode, we sit down with award-winning entertainment journalist, and current Editor-at-Large at the Daily Mail, Alison Boshoff to discuss her new book, Brand Beckham, which explores how David and Victoria Beckham transformed themselves from global celebrities into one of the world's most recognisable and enduring brands.
With decades of experience reporting on some of the world's biggest celebrities, Alison explores the media moments that helped shape Brand Beckham, from David and Victoria's early relationship and their headline-making wedding to the evolution of their fashion identities and the launch of their respective business empires. Alison explains the importance of source cultivation, why relationships between journalists and their sources are built over years rather than through one-off conversations, and how knowing when and how to push for information can make all the difference. Alison also discusses the more difficult side of celebrity reporting, including family crises, her recent involvement in the High Court privacy trial between Prince Harry and Associated Newspapers, and the intense scrutiny faced by high-profile figures. We also examine the striking parallels between the Beckham and Royal Family narratives.
Brand Beckham is OUT NOW, and is a fascinating look at the relationship between fame, media, reputation and strategic brand-building. And head to Alison’s brilliant Substack by searching @alisonboshoff.

Beckham media moments: From their early romance and iconic wedding to family controversies and career reinventions, Alison explores the moments that shaped public perceptions of the Beckhams.
The power of image: How fashion, photography and carefully constructed imagery became central to the Beckham brand - and why visual storytelling can sometimes communicate more powerfully than words.

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. - Prince Louis has become one of the Royal Family’s most naturally entertaining young figures. From pulling faces on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Platinum Jubilee to his latest public appearances, the press has affectionately embraced the young prince as the funny, charismatic royal who “steals the show.” But could years of seemingly harmless headlines eventually create a role he never chose for himself?
In this week’s Jacki’s Deep Dive, Jacki is looking at a pattern that has already played out twice within the Royal Family. From Prince Andrew being positioned as the roguish alternative to the dutiful Charles, to Prince Harry becoming the wild and charismatic contrast to William, repeated media framing helped build powerful public identities around both men. Jacki examines whether the same narrative is now beginning to form around Prince Louis, why even positive coverage can become restrictive when repeated over many years, and how the Royal Family and the press can avoid falling into the same trap for a third generation. We also explore why William and Catherine’s existing restrictive agreements with the British media offer genuine reason for optimism, and how extending that restraint from photography to language could help give royal children the freedom to develop their own identities.
In this episode:
The Prince Louis persona: How affectionate coverage of his humour, expressions and public appearances is beginning to create a recognisable media identity around him.
The royal pattern repeating: Why the contrasting portrayals of Charles and Andrew, then William and Harry, offer a warning about labelling royal siblings too early.
When positive headlines become a box: How repeated descriptions such as “the charismatic one” can gradually become an identity a child never chose.
Why there is reason for optimism: How William and Catherine’s existing relationship with the British press shows that greater restraint around royal children is possible.
Changing the language: Why the next step may be moving beyond rules about photographs and applying the same discipline to comparisons, labels and personality narratives.

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. - Sarah Ferguson is facing a deepening royal scandal as Andrew Lownie’s explosive revelations place the House of York under renewed scrutiny. With legal investigations, charity controversies and damaging claims threatening Fergie’s reputation, her familiar PR strategy of retreating from public view and waiting for the headlines to vanish may no longer work. As the royal family distances itself and her traditional comeback routes disappear, Sarah Ferguson is now facing a defining reputation-management decision.
In this episode, we analyse the crisis communications dilemma facing Sarah Ferguson as Andrew Lownie’s heavily sourced allegations become harder to challenge or wait out. Jacki and Lyle examine whether Fergie’s familiar strategy of disappearing, letting the headlines fade and eventually returning with a charitable or creative project can still work in these very different circumstances. Could a podcast offer a strategic middle ground, giving her greater control over the narrative, a way to monetise her profile and an opportunity to reshape her reputation without committing to a damaging tell-all? Or would it fall into the same trap as Meghan’s podcast, promising access but failing to deliver audiences what they actually want?
Don't forget to join us in part 2 on Substack or YouTube for the full length episode!
In this episode:
Why this scandal is different: How the loss of Fergie’s royal proximity and philanthropic platform has made her traditional comeback strategy increasingly difficult.
The credibility problem: Why Andrew Lownie’s careful sourcing, understated delivery and confidence in his allegations make him difficult for Fergie’s team to challenge.
A collapsing public narrative: How Lownie is questioning the “happiest divorced couple” image and other messages Sarah Ferguson has relied upon for years.
The content creator threat: Why independent royal podcasters may investigate the House of York more aggressively than traditional royal correspondents.
The podcast opportunity: Could Sarah Ferguson use her contacts, presenting experience and natural showmanship to build a platform she can control?

Mark Dolan may have crossed a line by speculating about Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but was Harry and Meghan’s furious response the even greater controversy? After Dolan suggested that the Sussex children could one day make life difficult for Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte, Harry and Meghan issued a strongly worded statement declaring themselves “genuinely disgusted.”
In this episode, we’re examining why the Sussexes were justified in defending their children, but may have undermined their own position through an emotional and confrontational response. Using this latest Sussex development as a case study, we’re exploring how a show of anger can allow the display itself to overshadow the original comments made and prolong in the media cycle. From Mark Dolan’s provocative broadcasting style to the late Queen Elizabeth’s famously restrained “recollections may vary” response, we compare two radically different approaches to reputation management. We also consider what this latest communication misstep means for Harry and Meghan’s attempts to rebuild bridges with the Royal Family, and why effective crisis communications are defined by, not whether, but how you respond.
In this episode:
When commentary crosses the line: Why speculating about the future personalities and behaviour of Archie and Lilibet was fundamentally different from analysing their parents.
The emotional statement problem: How words such as “demonize,” “disgusted” and “irresponsible” escalated the dispute rather than shutting it down.
When the response becomes the story: Why the Sussexes’ anger attracted greater scrutiny and gave Mark Dolan more material to discuss.
Restraint versus retaliation: What Harry and Meghan could learn from Queen Elizabeth and Princess Catherine’s more measured communication styles.
The reconciliation problem: Why this latest statement may reinforce the perception that Harry and Meghan remain unpredictable and difficult to reintegrate into royal life.
