Why People Don't Take You Seriously

    18/08/2026 | 9 mins.
You spoke up. You were clear. You told them what you needed and by when. They said yes. Then the deadline came and the thing wasn't there. If you've been getting more direct and watching it still not land, there's a specific reason. Directness is one ingredient. There's a second ingredient almost no one teaches you.

In this episode, Dr. Aziz walks through what that missing ingredient is and why it's so uncomfortable for nice people to use. He breaks down the two failure modes most people run (the Avoider says nothing, the Diplomat says it so softly it sounds like their problem), shows what to actually say when someone misses an agreement, and unpacks the concept of the aura of authority that determines how you're treated regardless of your title.

    This episode covers:

The missing ingredient in being direct that almost no one teaches you

The two failure modes nice people run when someone doesn't follow through

The moment of silence after you've named the impact (and why it does most of the work)

Why authority comes from how you carry yourself, not your title or years of experience

    Why Boundaries Feel So Hard

    11/08/2026 | 11 mins.
You know the techniques. You've read the books. You can recite the scripts. In the moment, none of it shows up. The standard boundaries advice has been missing the question that fires underneath every boundary moment: am I allowed to ask for this?

In this episode, Dr. Aziz walks through why most boundaries advice fails high-functioning people who already know the techniques. He demystifies what boundaries actually are (just preferences), uses a shoes-off-in-the-house example to make the concept disarmingly concrete, and breaks down the four levels of boundaries that almost no one teaches together.

    This episode covers:

The unconscious question (am I allowed to ask for this?) that keeps boundary techniques from working

The four levels: knowing your preference, communicating it, holding your ground, and the if-then consequences most people never get to

How the Diplomat pattern softens boundary requests into invisibility (with an example you'll recognize instantly)

A recent client story: two boundaries in one week, and what the other people did that floored him

Why Facing Your Fears Doesn't Work

    04/08/2026 | 13 mins.
You did the bold thing. You went through with it. It even went well. So why isn't the doubt gone? Why does the next meeting, the next date, the next big moment still produce the same anxiety?

In this episode, Dr. Aziz unpacks why get out of your comfort zone and face your fears is incomplete advice that's been failing high-functioning people for years. The exposures aren't the problem. What's missing is what's supposed to happen during the exposures, and most people are running so hard at the surface task they never get to it. He shares a story about a Toastmasters client who did fifteen polished speeches without ever updating her actual fear, and a moment from his own training where he taught a group of college students about test anxiety by being the most visibly anxious person in the room.

    This episode covers:

Why exposure-alone keeps high-functioning professionals stuck in endurance mode for decades

The thing your nervous system actually needs to learn from each exposure (and what most people accidentally prevent)

The hyper-prepared, polished version of you that's been blocking the real update

The toggle from endurance mode to enjoyment mode, and what changes when you flip it

    “Be Yourself” Is Terrible Advice

    28/07/2026 | 11 mins.
Right before a date, an interview, or a family gathering, someone tells you to just be yourself. Has that ever actually helped? For most of the people Dr. Aziz works with, it's done the opposite.

In this episode, Dr. Aziz explains why be yourself and be authentic fail as guidance, even though they're pointing at something real. The map they hand you is no map at all, so most people end up constructing an idealized fantasy version of themselves to perform. That's a different kind of cage. He walks through a much more useful framework: identify what you value and live it today, not someday.

    This episode covers:

Why just be yourself is well-meaning but useless advice

The fantasy-self trap: how the absence of a real map produces a different kind of cage

How to actually find your values, even if you draw a blank when someone asks you

The end-of-day test that tells you whether you were more yourself today than yesterday

    You're Allowed To Push Back

    21/07/2026 | 11 mins.
"In those situations, it's not being defensive. It's defending myself. And those are two very different things. And one is actually extremely necessary and healthy."

Someone says something to you that's out of line. You say nothing. Not because you don't have a response, but because the line I don't want to be defensive has functioned as a gag order for the last twenty years.

In this episode, Dr. Aziz unpacks the cultural confusion that's been keeping a lot of high-functioning people silent in situations where they should be speaking. He distinguishes between being defensive (closed off to feedback, refusing accountability) and defending yourself (asserting your reality, your perspective, your no). Personal growth culture has collapsed the two, and the cost is enormous.

He also shares a consulting-group story he hadn't told before: four therapists spending five to seven minutes each interrogating his career decision to move into coaching. The kind of conversation that, when you stay silent in it, you end up carrying in your head for three weeks.
