  • "#48 Danny O'Sullivan – Dealing With An Unimaginable Loss of A Loved One & The Positive Impact of Triathlon Training on His Life and Those Around Him"
Episode 48 with Danny O’Sullivan  Last night I sat down with Danny to have a deeply moving and inspiring conversation. Danny from Tralee Co. Kerry has been an inspiration through his fitness endeavours with running events and most recent completing a sub 10h Ironman in Copenhagen at his first attempt but when you hear his story of what he’s biggest challenges are in life right now it’s sure to inspire many others. Danny is a father of two wonderful young children who lost their mother Alison to cancer only 4 months ago at the age of only 37 . In the face of this unimaginable grief that no one should go through,  Danny has turned to his training on a day to day basis not to escape but as a way to show up and to navigate his loss, stay strong for his children, and find purpose in the toughest of times. We have a very open an honest conversation around many topics:How Danny has managed to balance training, fatherhood, and griefThe role that health and fitness have played in his healing journeyHis time spent in Perth Australia with AlisonHis football career with Kerins O’Rahillys and KerryHis deeper passion for runningHis experience racing at Ironman Copenhagen What the future holds for himHow he continues to cope with the loss of his wifeDanny’s journey is a testament to the fact that endurance isn’t just about sport, it’s about life itself. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me through the links below:Adrian on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/aidoalan/Adrian on Strava:https://strava.app.link/l85uCUtvTLbAdrian on Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/aidoalan1Email:[email protected]

  • #47 "Navigating Life’s Challenges : Finding Routine & Support at Home
Life is constantly happening around us, and we can only do our best to protect ourselves through it all. I’m back in Ireland once again, and unfortunately, it’s under tough circumstances. My mom isn’t doing well, and it only felt right to come home and be with her and the rest of my family. It’s been five weeks now, and though the situation is challenging, I’ve managed to create a routine and structure to guide me through each day.In this episode, I’ll dive into what life is like for me at the moment and how I’m handling the stressors that come with it. I’ve sought guidance from my good friend Denis Mac to help me stay accountable, keep my strength up in the gym, and support me through this transition.I’m transitioning away from my Ironman training during the off-season, and with my work in FIFO (Fly In Fly Out), my time commitments have been unpredictable. I wasn’t sure how long I’d be in Ireland, so it was important to get extra help and support to stay on track with my health and fitness goals. What I’ll cover in this episode:The current state of my life and how I’m coping with the stress of the situationWorking with Denis and the structures we've put in place to stay focusedOvercoming emotional eating, especially during times of high stressHow I’m managing my calorie intake versus output in training and the importance of balanceFinding gym structure while also keeping in shorter runs to stay activeThe generosity of my good friend Kevin, who kindly gave me a vehicle to useBooks I’m currently reading or listening to, and how they’re helping me growReflecting on the story of Together for Faidh, a beautiful community-driven initiative to support a young girl’s fight against cancerIt’s been a challenging but enlightening time, and I want to share these insights with you, hoping they can offer support, perspective, or simply help you feel less alone in your own journey.

  • #46 From Ironman to Iron Ore – Returning to Mining & FIFO Lifestyle
Returning to mining wasn’t something I had planned, but when an old friend reached out last July, everything changed. An unexpected opportunity to work with one of Western Australia’s largest iron ore companies came my way. After navigating the interview process and enduring a few delays, I was offered the position. Between 2011 and 2015, I spent four years on grueling 3-4 week rosters in remote WA, with only one week off at a time. As a 30-year-old single guy back then, I didn’t exactly use that R&R for rest and recovery. This time, things are different. While it’s still early days on-site, I couldn’t pass up this chance. However, I carefully considered how this new FIFO lifestyle might affect my relationships, fitness, and personal goals before jumping back in. In this episode, I’ll dive into: Whether the 8-days-on, 6-days-off roster will improve or challenge my relationship and my lifestyle. What are the short and long term goals with the company. Strategies to stay on track with my fitness goals. Why sometimes you just can’t say no to an opportunity. How I plan to make the most of my week off doing the things I love. If you’ve ever wondered about balancing a FIFO lifestyle with personal goals, relationships, and fitness, this episode is for you. Got questions or feedback? • #45 "How I Became an Ironman: Achieving My Long-Standing Goal and Proving Anything Is Possible"
After 18 months of dedication, countless lessons, and relentless training, race day is finally here. Can I go under 11 hours in my first-ever Ironman? Having started this journey in July 2023, unable to swim more than 50 meters, I’ve learned what it takes to push limits, grow confidence, and prepare for the ultimate challenge: completing the Western Australia Ironman in Busselton. In this episode, I reflect on: The Lead-Up: How I prepared and stayed organized for race day. Swim, Bike, Run: Breaking down each leg of the race, how I performed, and what I learned along the way. The Finish Line Feeling: From ringing the bell to running down the red carpet—it’s a moment I’ll never forget. Lessons in Endurance: How past events helped shape my mindset and allowed me to stay in control. The Power of Community: A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who supported me, whether through the podcast or in Busselton. This episode is not just about the race—it’s about the journey, the growth, and the belief that anything is possible with commitment and resilience.
