Why does it sometimes look like people can disobey God and still succeed?
In Numbers 20, Moses directly disobeyed God. He struck the rock instead of speaking to it. Yet something surprising happened: water still came out abundantly.
That uncomfortable contradiction raises questions almost every believer eventually faces.
Why does someone with bad character sometimes prosper?
Why can dishonest people succeed?
Why can someone faithfully do what is right and still struggle?
Does obedience really matter when wrong sometimes seems to work?
Using the story of Moses, Psalm 73, Peter, Jonah, and examples from ministry, this sermon examines the danger of turning biblical principles into rigid formulas.
God’s blessing is not always an endorsement of someone’s character. Sometimes what looks like approval is actually God’s patience. Sometimes God is helping other people in spite of a flawed messenger. And sometimes we simply have not reached the end of the story yet.
“God always pays, but not always by Friday.”
If you are discouraged because you have been doing right without seeing the results you expected, keep your heart right and keep trusting God.
If things are going well while you know something in your life is wrong, don’t mistake God’s patience for His approval. Repent and fix it.

Crowds, influence, and religious knowledge can create a convincing image—but Jesus looks for something deeper: a genuinely changed heart.
In this Wayman Wednesday message from John 9:35–41, we examine the difference between appearing religious and truly knowing Jesus Christ. The Pharisees possessed recognition, structure, and knowledge, yet their pride kept them from recognizing the work of God directly in front of them.

Someone in your life may look completely uninterested in God. They may have rejected every invitation, ignored every conversation, and shown no outward sign of change.
But you don't know what God may already be stirring inside them.
In Luke 19, Zacchaeus was known as a corrupt tax collector, a traitor, and a sinner. Everyone in Jericho thought they knew exactly what kind of man he was. What they couldn't see was that something had already begun happening in his heart.
He climbed a tree hoping to see Jesus.
He had no idea Jesus was looking for him.
